Tennessee soccer extended its winning streak to five matches on Sunday afternoon, defeating Ole Miss, 4-1, in Oxford. The No. 5 Lady Vols (11-1-1, 5-1-1 SEC) overcame an early deficit with four unanswered goals, taking control in the second half against the Rebels (4-6-1, 0-5-1).

Ole Miss struck first in the 16th minute when a forward received a pass into the box and lobbed the ball over the head of sophomore goalkeeper Cayden Norris for the opening goal.

Tennessee responded in the 24th minute as redshirt senior Jenna Stayart leveled the score, finishing off an assist from redshirt senior Mac Midgley. Midgley delivered a pass to Stayart on the left side of the box, and Stayart quickly controlled the ball, dodging the goalkeeper and firing it into the back of the net for the equalizer.

The score remained tied for the next 21 minutes, and the first half ended with Tennessee holding a statistical advantage. The Lady Vols logged five shots compared with Ole Miss’s single attempt, but they remained gridlocked at halftime.

Less than 10 minutes after the break, Tennessee took the lead. Sophomore forward Alivia Stott received a pass from redshirt freshman Devin Davis, wove past a defender and placed a shot past the goalkeeper on the left side of the goal. The score marked Stott’s sixth goal of the season and put Tennessee ahead 2-1.

Tennessee quickly built on its momentum. In the 60th minute, Midgley capitalized on a loose ball, dribbled down the endline, and fired a shot past the goalkeeper to score her first goal of the season, giving the Lady Vols a 3-1 advantage. The goal shifted the narrative of the match, with Tennessee fully in control after the initial deficit.

The final goal came from redshirt junior midfielder Luciana Latino, who intercepted a pass near midfield and struck a shot from just outside the box. The goal was the first of her career and made her the 12th different scorer for Tennessee in 13 matches this season.

Tennessee dominated the second half, outshooting Ole Miss 9-0 after halftime and finishing with 14 total shots. The Lady Vols’ defense also stepped up, limiting the Rebels to a single shot over the entire match.

Tennessee will return to action Thursday, Oct. 9, when it travels to Norman, Oklahoma, to face the Oklahoma Sooners at 8 p.m. ET.
