Rabat – The Israel Premier Tech cycling team has officially announced a major decision, cutting all ties with Israel and preparing to relaunch under a new name and structure.
In a public statement, the team confirmed that it will no longer carry any Israeli identity, and that Sylvan Adams – the team’s longtime backer and a close associate of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – will step down from his leadership role.
This decision comes after growing international criticism of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, killing over 65,000 Palestinians.
Founded 11 years ago as the Cycling Academy, the team aimed to support young riders from countries with little cycling tradition, including Israel.
It later evolved into Israel Premier Tech and achieved notable success, including stage wins in the Tour de France. But recent months have brought intense backlash. During La Vuelta, protests against the team disrupted several stages.
In cities like Bilbao, Galicia, and Madrid, demonstrators crowded the streets, forcing route changes and blocking the final circuit. In response, the team removed “Israel” from its jersey but continued to compete.
The team’s statement stressed that the decision to rebrand was made to protect its future and maintain its commitment to riders, staff, and sponsors.
Sylvan Adams will now focus on his role as President of the World Jewish Congress and will no longer speak on behalf of the team.
The team promises to stay true to its original mission, which is developing cycling talent from around the world.
While the new name and structure will be revealed soon, the team expressed gratitude to its fans for their support during this difficult period and hopes to continue its journey alongside fans under a fresh identity.
