A Chatham teen is travelling to Alexandria, Egypt, to represent Canada at the Miss Eco Teen International pageant.

Elise Moccia, 15, earned her way into the pageant after being crowned the winner of Miss Eco Teen Canada, said a media release.

Selected from a talented group of young women from across the country, Moccia stood out for her poise, intelligence, leadership, and commitment to community service, the release said. With her national title, she now carries the honour and responsibility of being Canada’s ambassador on the international pageant stage.
“This is truly a dream come true,” said Moccia, who has been active in her volunteer work throughout the community and dance.
“I’m excited to share Canada’s diverse culture with the world and to connect with other inspiring young women from around the globe,” added the Ursuline College Chatham 10th-grader.

The pageant, running Oct. 12 to 18 in the historic city on the Nile River delta, will host contestants from more than 20 countries.
Delegates will participate in cultural exchange events, public speaking, eco-friendly initiatives and stage performances – all designed to empower the next generation of global female leaders, the release said.
Moccia is passionate about advocating for children with disabilities, a cause she plans to spotlight throughout the international competition.
Her journey to Alexandria marks not only a personal milestone, but also a celebration of Canada’s rich multicultural identity and commitment to youth leadership on a global scale, the release said.
