Sza has lashed out over the use of AI as she accused it of “killing and polluting black and brown cities.”
The singer shared a post on her social media where she slammed the surge in reliance on technology for tasks that once involved a natural thinking process. Uploading a meme on her Instagram stories she critiqued the rising popularity of AI, ridiculing the loss of actual use of imagination.
The post featured a picture of actress Gillian Anderson from her hit show The X Files with the words, “Yeah, I use AI,” written across the top, with, “Actual Imagination,” added on the lower half of the image. Sza, 35, then gave her scathing opinion with her own caption on top of the meme.

She wrote, “AI is killing and polluting black and brown cities. None of you care cause you’re codependent on a machine. Have a great life.” Fans of the chart star shared her post on Reddit where they discussed the topic agreeing with her sentiment.

One wrote, “AI is truly going to be the downfall of mankind. Why learn from others when you can just ChatGPT it? Why hire someone when you can automate it? The amount of people in my age group (mid thirties) using it to spruce up their posts and pictures has made me mostly step away from social media outside of here.
“I miss seeing real thoughts even if they weren’t always eloquent or hilarious and I miss seeing pictures that didn’t have that perfected look to them. It makes me sad.”
A second said, “I so vehemently agree with Sza. F— AI all the way to hell. Its destroying lives in so many ways. Goddammit I have capitalism so much.”

A third posted, “I’m a law student and working as a legal research assistant. A friend asked why didn’t I just put the legislation into ChatGPT to summarize it for me. ‘Because I have to actually use my brain to learn how to do this.'”
A fourth social media user shared, “It’s terrible for the environment (uses a ton of electricity and water), and the data centers that are spewing toxins are often near predominantly black and brown communities.”
A fifth noted, “I think she’s trying to PREVENT people from BECOMING codependent on ai by informing them about this. She’s also highlighting how its negative environmental impacts disproportionately harm black and brown communities. Also, just because one thing is bad (cell phones), that doesn’t mean that another thing (ai) shouldn’t also be criticized.”
