Houston took a big swing in the offseason, getting Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns while giving up 23-year-old guard Jalen Green along with guard Dillon Brooks in a trade that expanded to an NBA-record seven teams before it was done. The Rockets also got big man Clint Capela in a sign-and-trade as part of the same deal. But point guard Fred VanVleet tore his ACL last month before training camp and may be out for the season, while free-agent addition Dorian Finney-Smith likely won’t start the season due to an ankle injury. Houston won 52 games, returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2020, but exited in the first round.
The Hawks picked up big man Kristaps Porziņģis from the Boston Celtics for Terance Mann, Georges Niang, and Drake Powell while taking Georgia’s Asa Newell with the 23rd overall pick in the draft. Atlanta lost free agents Capela, Caris LeVert, and Larry Nance Jr. while adding wing depth by signing Nickeil Alexander-Walker. The Hawks missed the playoffs for the second straight year after losing twice in the play-in tournament.
This is a great NBA matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
