An Isle of Wight boxing club enjoyed a strong start to the new season.
Newport Phoenix Boxers began the fresh campaign with members gaining places in national championships and winning starts at Lord Mountbatten Show in Southsea.

Making his debut, 13-year old Layton Lea impressed officials in a three-round skills match, setting up anticipation for his first full bout.
Bobby Mills, 13, took on Joe Henderson from Ashford ABC, Kent, taking the first round with solid, fast attacks.

Bobby grew in confidence throughout the fight and delivered accurate counter punches, resulting in two standing counts and stopping his opponent.
Rhydian Cobb, 18, took on Callum Dlubak-Daly from Fighters Republic ABC in Slough, the two fighters giving it their all throughout the bout.

It was Rhydian who won out, however, causing a standing count in the second round with a layback uppercut.
The Islander won by a unanimous decision.
Ade Obolo, 18, was last up and made his debut in the ring against the more experienced Rich Zarins, also 18.
Ade used his skillset to take all three rounds in the contest, and win his first bout.
Zoe Portsmouth received a bye to this year’s National Development Championship Semi Final at the end of October.
