It’s been a big week for “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

One night after Taylor Swift made her highly-anticipated appearance on the show, another global phenomenon took the stage for a brief interview and performance: The singing voices of “KPop Demon Hunters.”

The audience went wild when EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami — the soaring vocals behind the roles of Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), respectively — came on Fallon’s show Tuesday night.

“This has been a phenomenon,” the late night host said. “I’m so honored to have you here.”

As he listed the film’s staggering streaming numbers — it has been streamed more than 362 million times around the world — the singers seemed genuinely shocked by it all.

The movie about a trio of K-pop superstars who hunt demons hit Netflix in late June and has already become the most-watched film in Netflix history, as the Deseret News previously reported.

The hit song “Golden” — which EJAE said she co-wrote while on her way to the dentist — has now held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight consecutive weeks. A few weeks ago, it became the longest-leading movie soundtrack of the decade as it surpassed the previous record set by the “Encanto” hit “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” Billboard reported.

And in late August, a staggering four songs from the film simultaneously charted in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 — a first for a film soundtrack, according to Variety.

“This movie has affected us all so much on an emotional level,” Nuna told Fallon, noting that while it usually takes her a long time to process her emotions, she was bawling her eyes out within five minutes of the film’s premiere as she saw Korean culture represented so strongly — something she never could have imagined as a child.

Ami recalled with some emotion hearing a 5-year-old boy singing “Golden” “at the top of his lungs” while shopping at an H Mart in Los Angeles.

“I think it’s one thing to hear our song on the radio, but to hear it come out of a child, live … in H Mart?!” she exclaimed. “I just cried at H Mart.”

At the end of the interview, Fallon shared with the audience that the singers brought “KPop Demon Hunters” merch for everyone in attendance. And then the TV host had his own surprise for his guests.

“I’m honored to be the first person — this is real — to tell you that ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ you’ve gone platinum, guys,” Fallon said as he lifted up a framed record from behind his desk and showed it to the singers, who became emotional. “You have a platinum record!”

Per the Recording Industry Association of America, an album goes platinum when it has sold at least 1 million units.

The trio of singers later took the stage to perform “Golden” — their first live, full-length performance of the song, per Variety.

‘KPop Demon Hunters’ star May Hong on film’s success

The “KPop Demon Hunters” appearance on Fallon’s show comes a couple of weeks after May Hong, who voices Mira in the film, appeared at Salt Lake City’s FanX.

Hong was visibly shocked by the enthusiastic response she received from the crowd of roughly 5,000.

“There’s no way I could have possibly imagined that it would be like this,” she said of the film’s success. “I hoped that people would receive it with love and appreciate the script. … It’s just so surreal. Thank you, everyone.”

Hong gave the fans a shoutout for adding even more meaning to this significant moment in her career.

“I know we’re reaching these crazy records for the music and the movie … but really getting time face to face with people one on one and getting to hear their story and that it’s a comfort movie for them, I just feel so humbled and privileged that I get to be a small part of something that makes people happy,” she said.
