The leader in the chase for the final group entering the Round of 8 is Denny Hamlin, the winningest driver on the NASCAR Cup Series to never win the Cup. Hamlin’s five race wins this season are tied for the most on the series with Shane Van Gisbergen, who won last week in Charlotte but was eliminated from playoff contention in the Round of 16. The rest of the remaining playoff drivers includes William Byron, Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe.
Larson and Byron share the bubble entering the Round of 8, with each four points ahead of Bell. Hamlin is eight points clear of the cutoff line, while Blaney has a six-point gap. Elliott and Briscoe are each 14 points back and Logano comes in with a 24-point deficit. Playoff drivers can automatically qualify for the Championship 4 with a win in any of the next three races.
The South Point 400 is a 267-lap run around the 1.5-mile tri-oval in Las Vegas, with each of the first two stages covering 80 laps before a final stage of 107 laps. Logano is the only two-time winner of the fall race in Vegas, which was added to the NASCAR Cup Series schedule in 2018. Hamlin (2021) and Larson (2023) have also won the event. Josh Berry, eliminated in the Round of 16, won the spring race in Las Vegas back in March.
