The ongoing managerial saga over at Rangers is certainly providing Celtic supporters with plenty of entertainment in this international break.

Now that Steven Gerrard has walked away from Rangers again, Celtic fans are still in the dark as to who will take up the away dugout in January’s Glasgow Derby and next month’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

As Rangers continue their search for a new boss, Celtic supporters will be looking ahead to the real football starting up against Dundee next Sunday.

With Brendan Rodgers looking forward to defending the league title and the cup, it appears that Rangers may well have a candidate in mind who Celtic shareholder Dermot Desmond was told to sign to replace Ange Postecoglou in 2023.

Graham Potter was a name that was in and around the Celtic circles to replace former manager Ange Postecoglou after he left to join Spurs.

Former Celtic star Kris Commons told Football Scotland that Dermot Desmond should have pushed the boat out to get Potter like they did for Brendan Rodgers in his first tenure at the club.

Commons said in June 2023, “Trust me, given the bloated squad that was thrust upon him due to all the new signings, there would have been better managers than Graham Potter who would have failed at Chelsea this season.

“It was nigh-on impossible given the circumstances and I really don’t think his reputation will have taken much of a hit.

“If Celtic can land an ex- Liverpool boss like Rodgers, then they certainly would have a chance of getting someone like Potter. It would be daft not to at least ask him the question, if and when Postecoglou does depart.”

Indeed, the question was not asked despite Potter being linked to Celtic and, rather ironically, Desmond picked Brendan Rodgers. And now, it seems the former Chelsea boss could face the Hoops next month.

Graham Potter ‘interviewed’ by Rangers to take on Celtic after West Ham sacking

According to The Daily Record, Potter has been interviewed by Rangers to fill the vacant manager position at Ibrox and he could be the next person to have a crack at taking on Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

Potter was highly regarded in England after he took Brighton to the Premier League in 2022. That achievement led Chelsea to headhunt the young English coach.

After spending £323m of Chelsea’s money in the preceding January transfer window, Potter was sacked in April leaving the London club in 11th place in the league.

Taking an almost two-year holiday from management, Potter was hired by West Ham in January of this year on a two-and-a-half-year deal but, again, was sacked last month after a poor run of results left the Hammers in 19th position in the league.
