A 13-year-old girl from Toronto has walked great lengths in support of a local charity she strongly believes in.
On Friday, Evangeline Link began her fourth annual Thanksgiving weekend walk from Binbrook, Ont. to Toronto, which is a roughly 100-kilometre trek.
Called Evangeline Walks, the fundraiser raises money Covenant House, the largest agency in Canada serving youth age 16 to 24 who are homeless, trafficked, or at-risk.
So far, it has raised more than $45,000 for Covenant House and others have been inspired to take part.
Today, Evangeline completed Day 3 of her 2025 challenge.
“The journey has been good and it’s been a little hard this morning since it’s the third day in the row,” she told CP24 on Sunday afternoon, adding that the third day is always the hardest because it’s the in-betweenone.
“You’ve walked for two days already, but it’s not the last day yet. So you know, you still have more to go.”
Evangeline said she came up with the idea to do a solo charity walk four years ago, when she was just 10 years old.
“My teacher did the bike Ride to Conquer Cancer and that really inspired me because I wanted to do something beautiful, meaningful for other people too,” she shared.
Evangeline said loves to walk and she loves her grandparetns so she decided to walk their home to Toronto and raise money.
Initially, her parents, Ryan and Teresita Link, weren’t on board with the but they eventually warmed up to the idea.
In an email, the Links said they’re “extreme proud” of their daughter, especially because of how much she’s inspired both adults and kids to take part.
“In times where we can find ourselves surrounded by negativity, we could all use her motivation to inspire us all,” they wrote, adding their daughter “wants the youth at Covenant House to have what she knows she already has.”
Evangeline urged anyone who wants to make a difference to do what they can.
“I did a very big step here and this took a lot of effort, but if you don’t necessarily have that energy to do the same thing then always do what you set your mind for do, what helps other people and what helps you,” she said.
The teen said she plans to continue her annual fundraising walk for as long as she can do it.
