Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno is taking a brief leave of absence from the team to address a situation with his family, the team announced on Wednesday.
In an announcement on social media, the team said that Foligno is stepping away as his daughter undergoes follow-up surgery related to her congenital heart disease.
Foligno is in his third season with the Blackhawks and 19th season overall in the NHL. He has appeared in all four games for the Blackhawks this season, with two assists.
In 1,237 career NHL games with the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and Blackhawks, Foligno has 247 goals and 599 points.
