Seven local players have qualified for the OFSAA tennis championship Nov. 10-12 in Toronto.

They booked their trips by placing in the top two at the SWOSSAA championship Wednesday in Chatham at the Joe Carpenter and Doug Allin courts and the Chatham-Kent Racquet Centre.

McGregor’s Claudia Del Corral was second in high school girls singles.

Chatham-Kent’s Hannah Heinhuis and Hayden Heinhuis were second in high school girls doubles.

Pain Court’s Carter May and Will Deline were second in high school boys doubles.

Pain Court’s Kaylene Brophy and Parker Graham were second in high school mixed doubles.

Windsor Riverside won the team title with 16 points, LaSalle Villanova had 13, Lambton Central had 11 and Pain Court had 10.

Pain Court had 10 SWOSSAA players, more than any other school.

The high school division winners were Lambton Central’s Yarko Zelenchuk in boys singles, Villanova’s Farrah Mikhail in girls singles, Belle River’s Nash Raymond and Alex Bially in boys doubles, Riverside’s Olivia Depooter and Isabelle Robson in girls doubles, and Kingsville Erie Migration’s Quinn Miehl-Marentette and Mady Stanley in mixed doubles. Riverside’s Nolan Bryans was second in boys singles.

The open division winners were Mia Wesolowski of Belle River St. Anne in girls singles and Northern’s Chinmay Damani in boys singles. The runners-up were Essex’s Nadia Brujic in girls singles and Windsor Kennedy’s Teru Yasuyama in boys singles.

McGregor’s Giuseppe Saladino was fourth in open boys singles.

The OFSAA championship was traditionally played in the spring, but it was moved this year to the fall and will stay there going forward.
