Alberta Health Services has confirmed that it is laying off hundreds of employees.
In a statement emailed to Vista Radio, AHS said it started the process of laying off “approximately 100 filled” positions and eliminating about “300 vacant positions” on Tuesday, October 14.
According to the statement from AHS Communications, the move mostly impacts positions in corporate services.
“Some of these positions include, but are not limited to, roles in IT, Finance, Human Resources, and Community Engagement & Communications,” reads the statement.
“This represents 0.4 [per cent] of the total AHS workforce.”
AHS adds, “There have been no filled position eliminations in front-line clinical areas and no direct impacts to front-line clinical services.”
“AHS is grateful for the contributions of all impacted employees and will support them and their teams in the weeks ahead.”
The agency says because the move is an internal human resources matter, it cannot comment further.
AHS REFORM
