Huberdeau suffered an injury during a pre-season game against the Vancouver Canucks when he collided with goaltender Kevin Lankinen. He was placed on injured reserve to start the season, but has resumed skating in the last week.

Flames head coach Ryan Huska told reporters Thursday that Huberdeau is expected to return in Saturday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The 32-year-old is coming off his best season in Calgary, scoring 28 goals and 62 points in 81 games in 2024-25.

Gridin, meanwhile, will join the Wranglers to refine his overall game. A first-round pick of the Flames in 2024, Gridin earned a spot on Calgary’s opening-night roster after a strong pre-season.

The 19-year-old has one goal this season in 14:43 of ice time per game, while carrying a minus-3 rating. He was a healthy scratch for the Flames’ 3-1 loss on Wednesday night.

Calgary will hope Huberdeau’s return can spark its offence. The club is mired in a four-game losing streak, being outscored 16-6 in those contests.
