The Strangers: Chapter 2 review

After flopping at the box office with just $15.9 million worldwide in total, Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 2 has now been unceremoniously dumped onto Digital at home.

You can rent The Strangers: Chapter 2 on Digital at home for $19.99 or digitally purchase the film for $24.99. The physical media release will follow in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

In The Strangers: Chapter 2, “The Strangers are back – more brutal and relentless than ever. When they learn that one of their victims, Maya (Madelaine Petsch), is still alive, they return to finish what they’ve started. With nowhere to run and no one to trust, Maya must survive another horrific chapter of terror as The Strangers – driven by a senseless, unceasing purpose – pursue her, more than willing to kill anyone who stands in their way.”

Meagan writes in her 1-star review for Bloody Disgusting, “The Strangers: Chapter 2 throttles and chokes out any lingering interest in the Strangers and this confounding trilogy.”

The director of the 2020 slasher Initiation is back for Halloween with The Mannequin, a new possession horror movie that was just released onto VOD outlets at home on Tuesday.

In the film from director John Berardo, “Liana Rojas (Isabella Gomez), a creatively starved stylist assistant, discovers that the historical downtown Los Angeles factory building where her fashion designer sister mysteriously died is haunted by a serial killer posing as a headshot photographer for film studios who brutally murdered and dismembered his victims half a century earlier. This knowledge forces Liana and her friends to find a way to free themselves from the curse and escape the sinister ghost before they lose their own body parts.”

Krystle Martin (The Mean One), Lindsay LaVanchy (Predator: Killer of Killers), Jack Sochet (Smile) and Maxwell Hamilton (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) also star.

“The Price Is Right” meets SAW in Your Host, starring Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Watchmen) as a sadistic serial killer. It’s now available on VOD outlets.

In director DW Medoff’s horror movie, “Four friends wake up to find themselves trapped in an abandoned factory. Their captor is a deranged host in a terrifying mask who forces them to play a deadly game show. The only way to escape is to win.”

Ella-Rae Smith (“Foundation”), Jamie Flatters (Avatar: The Way of Water), David Angland (“The Devil’s Hour”), and Joelle Rae (“Get Even”) also star.

“When I first read Joey Miller’s script, I was immediately drawn in,” said Medoff. “It wasn’t just the sharp dialogue or the relentless pace. It gave me a raw, unapologetic framework to explore the good and bad that coexists in all of us, and the brutal fallout of selfish choices.”

Justice has no limits in MAR.IA, which is described as The Terminator meets I Spit on Your Grave. The film hit VOD outlets from Alliance Home Entertainment on Tuesday.

In the Argentinian sci-fi horror revenge thriller, “Maria Black transforms from an erotic film star to vengeful cyborg. After her mysteriously disappearance, she resurfaces seeking revenge, leading to a gory series of reckonings and a blood-soaked finale.”

Gabriel Grieco and Nicanor Loreti co-direct from a script by Loreti.

Daria Panchenko stars alongside Sofía Gala Castiglione, Malena Sánchez, Juan Palomino, Ezequiel Rodríguez, Demián Salomón, Sergio Boris, William Prociuk, Ezequiel De Almeida, Andrea Rincón, Magui Bravi, and Gabriel Grieco.

Tubi is your home for the next adaptation of an R.L. Stine terror tale, with the free streaming service serving up new movie R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead on the road to Halloween.

A feature adaptation of the same-titled episode from the television series “R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour,” R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead is now streaming only on Tubi!

“R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead centers on teenage Sam, whose family’s move to Redhaven is made worse when his brother Finn disappears — and no one else remembers that he existed.

“Sam joins friend Becka and eccentric Rusty in the race to find Finn and break a harvest curse before Halloween ends.”

Bean Reid, Adeline Lo, Kevin McNulty, Bob Frazer, Matty Finochio and Seth Isaac Johnson star. Jem Garrard (Slay) directed Pumpkinhead and also wrote the screenplay.

Black Phone 2 interview

Director Scott Derrickson’s Black Phone 2 is now playing in theaters nationwide.

Scott Derrickson returns to direct from a script he co-wrote with C. Robert Cargill. Joe Hill, author of the short story on which the 2021 film was based, executive produces.

“Four years ago, 13-year-old Finn killed his abductor and escaped, becoming the sole survivor of The Grabber. But true evil transcends death … and the phone is ringing again.

“Four-time Academy Award® nominee Ethan Hawke returns to the most sinister role of his career as The Grabber seeks vengeance on Finn (Mason Thames) from beyond the grave by menacing Finn’s younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw).

“As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake.

“Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history.

“Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.”

Fresh off its two-night theatrical run, The Jester 2 is now available on VOD. Colin Krawchuk returns to write and direct the sequel to his 2023 supernatural slasher movie.

“On Halloween, teen magician Max finds herself locked in a brutal showdown with the Jester, a nightmarish and supernatural trickster with real dark magic and a killer act. As illusions turn lethal and every escape is a trap, Max must pull off the ultimate trick: staying alive.”

Michael Sheffield, Kaitlyn Trentham, Jessica Ambuehl, and Dingani Beza star.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein arrives in theaters today before the Netflix premiere on November 7, but the catch there is that it’s only playing in “select theaters.”

What exactly does that mean? How many theaters will Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein actually be releasing in this weekend? And are any of them located anywhere near YOU?

Click here to find out if Frankenstein is playing near you this weekend.

Del Toro promises this morning, “the number of theatres will expand soon!”

Oscar Isaac stars in the new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic sci-fi/horror novel as Victor Frankenstein, with Jacob Elordi as The Creature, Mia Goth as Elizabeth Harlander, Christoph Waltz as Heinrich Harlander, and Felix Kammerer as William Frankenstein.

“Egotistical scientist Victor Frankenstein brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.”

Meagan writes in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “Frankenstein is absolutely breathtaking, with imagery and set pieces that instantly embed themselves in your memory. It showcases del Toro’s strength as a filmmaker, creating immersive worlds that enhance what he does best: championing monsters and their tragic humanity instead of using them to scare us.”

Beauty fades, but scars are forever for Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) in Other. The horror movie from the director of Them and MadS is now streaming on Shudder.

In the France-Belgium co-production, “Alice returns to her childhood home after her mother’s death, only to find the house is rigged with surveillance tracking her every move, as a sinister presence lurks, driving her towards a terrifying revelation.”

David Moreau wrote and directed, with Jon Goldman adapting the script into English. Jean Schatz, Lola Bonaventure, and Jacqueline Ghaye round out the cast.

Kate Mara believes something extraterrestrial has followed her back to Earth in The Astronaut, a sci-fi thriller that landed on VOD outlets at home today from Vertical.

Laurence Fishburne co-stars in the film.

“When astronaut Sam Walker (Mara) crash lands back to Earth, she’s discovered alive in a punctured capsule off the Atlantic coast. General William Harris (Fishburne) places her in quarantine under strict NASA surveillance for rehabilitation and testing. But as disturbing events escalate, she begins to fear that something extraterrestrial has followed her home.”

Writer-director Jess Varley (Phobias) makes her feature debut on the sci-fi thriller.

Brad Fuller (A Quiet Place, The Purge) produced The Astronaut.

Original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre actor Allen Danziger presents a massacre of a different kind in meta horror-comedy The WeedHacker Massacre, now available on VOD.

“The cast and crew of The WeedHacker Massacre boldly attempt to film their movie where a series of gruesome unsolved murders occurred 10 years ago. Bad acting, bounced payroll checks, and the masked killer’s return threaten what is surely to become their worst movie ever.”

Co-created by Allen Danziger and screenwriter Ray Spivey, the film is directed by stunt performer Jody Stelzig (Splinter, Time Trap). Danziger also appears in the film.

The cast for The WeedHacker Massacre includes David Treviño, Molly Sakonchick, Bobbie Grace (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Sean Reyna, and Parrish Randall.

Looking like a Winter Horror version of films like Duel, Joy Ride, and The Hitcher, icy cold indie Delivery Run features a crazed snowplow driver as its villain. It’s now available on VOD.

In the film, “A food delivery driver gets caught in a deadly chase in the icy Minnesota wilderness, pursued by a crazed snowplow driver for unknown reasons, facing life-threatening situations and forced to outsmart his relentless pursuer alone.”

Joey Palmroos directed Delivery Run, co-written with Anders Holmes.

Alexander Arnold stars, with Jussi Lampi as “Mr. Plow.”
