ROME, Ga. — Harding’s men’s doubles team of Adrian Solorzano and Cian Mikkelsen delivered a commanding performance Friday to punch their ticket to the national semifinals of the ITA Cup. Their victory was a highlight for the Bisons after Solorzano was eliminated from the singles championship bracket earlier in the day.
Solorzano and Mikkelsen, winners of the Central Region title, were clinical in their quarterfinal doubles match, defeating Patricio Sepulveda and Bora Bakici of Grand Valley State 6-2, 6-1. The straight-sets win moves the Harding duo into the ITA Cup “Final Four” for a chance to play for the national championship.
The team will face a difficult semifinal opponent in the No. 2 seeded duo of Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon of West Florida. Duran and Rondon are one of the top doubles teams in the nation, having previously been ranked as high as No. 2 nationally in the preseason rankings. The semifinal match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
In singles play, Solorzano’s championship run ended in the quarterfinals. He fell 6-2, 6-2 to the No. 2 seed, Yan Kodjoed of Barry University.
Solorzano now moves to the North consolation bracket where he will compete for fifth through eighth place. He is scheduled to play Germano Setti of Midwestern State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
