Connor Bedard is producing well to begin the new season, but according to statistics, the young Blackhawks forward isn’t dominating like some had hoped.
The Chicago Blackhawks had high hopes coming into Connor Bedard’s NHL career, and through two seasons, the talented centre is producing very well in the National Hockey League.
In two seasons, Bedard has tallied 45 goals and 128 points through 150 games played, and this season he appears to be taking a step forward, putting together 2 goals and 6 points in five games played through a very hot start that’s drawn him praise from his Head Coach.
Bedard’s Analytics Causing Concern This Season
However, those points don’t tell the entire story, as social media statistician JFresh has revealed a damning report that shows when he’s on the ice, Bedard and the Blackhawks are simply getting ‘caved in’.
Through the first five games, Bedard is among the worst players in the NHL in on ice shot attempts against, proving that when he’s out there, the Blackhawks are getting thoroughly out-shot.
With a 2-2-1 record in that time though, the Blackhawks, led by Bedard and rising star Frank Nazar have been fairly impressive against tough opponents, and if they can improve in this area, there’s no reason why they can’t take a huge leap forward against expectations in 2025/26.
Ultimately, Bedard has been very good to start his NHL career despite criticisms, and now, he appears to be taking a leap, and if he can improve on the defensive end of the ice, we may be finally looking at the star we expected to see when he entered the National Hockey League.
