Toronto and York Region residents are getting their first look at planned subway stations after Metrolinx released new renderings of the Yonge North Subway Extension.

The Yonge North Subway Extension will extend the TTC’s Line 1 by nearly 8 km north from Finch Station with new stations in Markham, Vaughan, and Richmond Hill.

On Thursday, the transit agency released renderings of the five new stations that will be built as part of the line’s extension.

The new stations include Steeles Station, Clark Station, Royal Orchard Station, Bridge Station, and High Tech Station.

According to Metrolinx, the new stations will reduce travel times by up to 22 minutes, while also bringing rapid transit closer to 26,000 people.

This summer, Metrolinx and the Ontario government awarded a contract for tunneling to the North End Connectors, who will be responsible for designing and building the tunnels for the extension.

The Yonge North subway extension is part of several rapid transit projects by the Ontario government. Other projects include the Finch West LRT, Eglinton Crosstown LRT, Ontario Line, and Scarborough Subway Extension.
