Jack Wood, driver of the No. 91 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet Silverado RST was off to a rocky start in the Love’s RV Stop 225 at Talladega Superspeedway after he started to sense a little smoke coming through the cabin by lap four of the 85-lap event. Thankfully, a quick caution came out shortly after and the No. 91 was able to come down pit road for fuel and a quick spot check of any issue that could be accruing inside that race truck. The team did an overall check and cleared the young driver to get back on track and catch up with he field. With five laps to go in Stage One, Wood settled in 14th and cruised with the draft until hopping out into the middle lane with momentum for an 11th-place Stage One finish. The Loomis, Calif. native reported to his team under the stage break that he was pretty happy with his truck and air was moving nicely. Crew chief Josh Graham called for Wood to stay out and gain some track position to restart the second stage third in line.

Wood held on strong in the top five for the majority of Stage Two with spotter Tyler Monn guiding him from the roof. With nine laps remaining in the stage, the yellow flag fell for another caution. Wood reported his balance was a little off and per strategy, Graham (Josh, crew chief) called the No. 91 down pit road for four tires, fuel and a slight adjustment. Restarting at the tail, the young driver gained multiple positions in the few laps remaining for a 21st-place Stage Two finish. Under the stage break, the No. 91 cruised down pit road for a quick top-off on Sunoco race fuel and he was on his way to restart the final laps fifth in line on the bottom.

With teammate Connor Mosack pushing from behind, the duo held tight together in the top five with 35 laps to go. The pit cycle was starting to role and the young driver saw himself second in line until the bottom line started to stall and Wood fell back to eighth. More chaos started to break out with a caution arising just 20 laps before the checkered. Restarting in the top 10 but lanes were not moving the way they needed to pull forward so the team made the decision to hop out of line to the top and create a new line. Trucks started to get lose and lanes broke, causing the No. 91 Chevrolet to stall out and fall back to 21st where he ultimately ended his day at Talladega.

Jack Wood Quote:

“We had a really good run there all day honestly and the truck felt super smooth. Having that little issue with smoke in the cabin on the start ended up working in our favor with pit cycle fanning out early to allow us to stay up front but I just wish that is where we could have concluded our day. Coming to the end, we had to try something and it just did not work but that is superspeedway racing, unfortunately. Good momentum for this No. 91 team and with just two races left to go, I think we can continue this on and have a good finish and Martinsville and Phoenix to end the season.”
