A child is dead and two others are in the hospital after a trailer fire in Oshawa on Saturday afternoon.
Crews were called to the area of Elgin Street East and Oshawa Boulevard North around 2:18 p.m. for a vehicle fire and unknown trouble.
“They arrived on scene within three minutes of the call and found a trailer fully engulfed in flames,” Acting Staff Sgt. Joanne McCabe told reporters at the scene.

Oshawa Fire Chief Stephen Barkwell added that crews encountered heavy smoke and flames.
“They did do a quick fire attack, tried for a quick rescue and then they continued suppression operations,” he said.
Crews located a deceased child inside the trailer, McCabe said. The identity of the victim is not immediately known.
The other two in the hospital, a male and a female, are in serious but non-life-threatening condition, McCabe said.
She added that two firefighters also sustained minor burn injuries.
The cause, origin and circumstances of the fire are unknown. The Ontario Fire Marshal is at the scene to investigate.
