Ryan Vargas has competed in a variety of motorsports series, both in the United States and in international markets. Now, he has taken on the world of Monster Jam and achieved success.

Vargas, who has 71 career Xfinity starts, took over the famed El Toro Loco truck during a Saturday Monster Jam event in Spokane, Washington. He scored seven points in racing competition, seven points in freestyle competition, and seven points in the two-wheel skills challenge.

This gave Vargas 21 total points, which secured him the Monster Jam win in the Pacific Northwest. He then celebrated with his trophy while holding back tears.

“I was just like you Monster Jam fans, hanging out in the grandstands, watching these trucks thrash and throw around,” Vargas said in his celebratory interview.

“I can’t believe it! First event weekend, and I’m an overall event champion. Holy smokes, this is incredible. Thank you, thank you, everybody.”

Vargas may have been a rookie, in Monster Jam competition, but he drove like a veteran during the Spokane event. He hit some big jumps in El Toro Loco, he slid around the dirt arena, and he did his first in-competition nose wheelie.

As Vargas noted during a friendly conversation at Charlotte Motor Speedway in early October, this nose wheelie took some practice. This isn’t a move that NASCAR drivers necessarily have in their toolbox.

Weeks later, Vargas went out into the arena and nailed the nose wheelie. He scored some crucial points and capped off what had been a dream experience.

“Just dream it. I never thought I’d drive anything in my life,” Vargas added. “I’ve raced in NASCAR, I’ve raced overseas, I’ve raced in Canada, and I’m driving in Monster Jam. I mean, can you believe that? That’s, that’s insane!”
