Lenny, a baby muskox searching for his mother, is the star of a new illustrated board book produced by the NWT’s Northern Quill Publishing.
Written by Dana Harris and illustrated by Lianne Plamondon, the book – titled Maww! Maww! – makes its debut in a storytime event on Sunday at Yellowknife Books. (That event also features Newfoundland’s Rebecca Gladney, author of Chirp’s Large Day and Chirp’s West End Wander.)

It’ll also be available at the Northern Book Fair, to be held at the Yellowknife Visitor Centre from 10am-2pm on Saturday, November 8.
The book “captures the diversity of northern wildlife and the power of perseverance through a story inspired by real events,” Northern Quill stated in a press release.
Along Lenny’s journey, the animals he meets “help him piece together what his mama might look like and how to find her,” the press release added.
Maww! Maww! is the first book by lifelong Yellowknife resident Harris. Plamondon has lived in the city since 2016.
