Paintings by the late artist Christopher Pollari will cover the walls of the upstairs gallery, The Art Hub at Spring, 504 Queen Street East, during the coming weeks. The exhibition, titled A Trip into the Fantastic, runs Oct. 22 to Nov. 5, with open houses Wednesday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. or by appointment.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see dozens of Christopher’s oil paintings on loan from private collections and from the artist’s own inventory. “It’s all about bringing his original art into the light and allowing people to stop in and enjoy,” states Wendy Hamilton, a longtime friend of the artist who is helping to organize the exhibit. For some people, it will be an introduction to the fantasy artist who spent his life working towards perfection — his objective, always, to create something worthy of longevity. For others, it will be a chance to honour the reclusive man they’d come to know, many via social media, who shared his battles with depression and his painting processes and techniques with kindness.
The Art Hub exhibit will also be a test of how to share the late artist’s works with an eye to the future. Over 50 years, Christopher donated paintings to local charity fundraisers and gifted his paintings to brighten the walls of hospitals. Gallery visitors will be able to order fine art prints of a select number of paintings, with the proceeds going to support Christopher’s favourite charities and to keeping his art and story moving out and onto the world stage.
“Christopher was a local treasure, someone this area can be very proud of. He created worlds on canvas.”
A Trip into the Fantastic opening reception is Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m.
