Doha Golf Club’s Daniil Sokolov produced a stunning performance to win the 104th Egyptian Amateur Open, held from October 16–18 at Dreamland Golf Club in Cairo.
The 14-year-old from Qatar finished at nine under par (69–72–66), becoming the youngest player to win the championship since its inception in 1921.
Sokolov continues to establish himself among the most promising young players in the Arab region. His closing round of 66 was the lowest of the week and sealed a two-shot win over Tunisia’s Baha Boulakmine, who finished second at seven under par. Alexandria’s Issa Abou El Ela claimed third at one under, followed closely by Tunisia’s Rebah Bedoui in fourth at even par.

The Egyptian Amateur Open is one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments in the Middle East and Africa, and this year’s edition carried added significance. It was played under the supervision of the Arab Golf Federation (AGF) and officially counted toward the Arab Golf Series (AGS) — the AGF’s flagship initiative that brings together the region’s leading national amateur events under a unified ranking system.
The inclusion of the Egyptian Amateur in the AGS calendar provides players with the chance to earn World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, helping them strengthen their international standing. For many of the region’s top amateurs, the Series serves as a key pathway toward professional golf.
The 2025 AGS season began earlier this year with events in Qatar and Lebanon, followed by the Arab Juniors & Women’s Championship in Cairo, which launched the Arab Ranking System for women and juniors. Subsequent stops in Jordan, Morocco, and Bahrain continued the momentum before the Series arrived in Egypt for the Men’s Amateur and Seniors Opens.

Egypt’s Amr Abou El Ela – Senior Open Champion
In the Senior Open, Egypt’s Amr Abou El Ela of Alexandria Golf Club claimed the title, rounding off a strong week for the host nation.
The Arab Golf Federation reiterated that its support for the Egyptian Amateur Open is part of a broader strategy to expand the base of the game across the Arab world, strengthen national teams’ participation in international events, and provide amateurs and emerging professionals with high-level competition.
The Arab Golf Series calendar has already seen a strong run in 2025, beginning with the Qatar Open in February, the Cedars Golf Championship in Lebanon (in collaboration with the UAE Golf Federation), and the Arab Juniors & Women’s Championship in Cairo, which marked the launch of the Arab Ranking System for women and juniors. After successful stops in Jordan, Morocco, and Bahrain, the Series now arrives in Egypt for the Men’s Amateur and Seniors Opens, with the Egyptian Junior and Ladies Amateur Golf Championship set to follow.
Looking ahead, the series will move to Saudi Arabia for the Arab Men’s and Seniors Championships alongside the Saudi Amateur Open in Riyadh, before concluding with the UAE Cup and the Tunisia Amateur Open (to be confirmed).
