There’s a reason why Lucy Holmes and Kel McWilliam are the longest-serving on-air duo in the Melbourne radio market.

In an often hostile and polarising media space, the Lucy & Kel Breakfast Show on 89.9 TheLight has long been a beacon of positivity. You won’t find any on-air argy bargy, shock jockery or explicit content here. Just a ‘family’ atmosphere built around listener stories.

And it’s a philosophy that’s served them well.

This week – after more than 17 years at the station and almost 13 years on air together – Lucy and Kel celebrate 3,000 shows.

In their years on-air together, they’ve built a strong and loyal audience.

For listeners like Kerry, who lives with a debilitating chronic illness, Lucy and Kel are not just radio hosts. They’re her cheer squad.

She likens Lucy and Kel’s on-air presence to a big, warm ‘Welcome to the family!’ hug:

“I’ve been moved to tears by the kindness and compassion they show to their listeners,” Kerry says.

“They always seem so real and I have always appreciated their honesty and openness in talking about the deeper meanings of life. Kel and Lucy love to hear about all the wins, big or small. This always encourages me.”

“They make listeners feel like everyone matters.”

Four-time winners of Christian Media and Arts Australia (CMAA) awards, Lucy and Kel were most recently recognised for their Girls in Sports initiative, which helped pay sport registration fees for families doing it tough.

To celebrate 3000 shows, listeners are invited to join Lucy and Kel for a special live broadcast and free breakfast this Thursday at Mitcham Social.

“This milestone is more than just a reminder, it’s a celebration of every listener who has shared their lives with us each morning,” says Lucy. “We’ve laughed, cried and grown alongside this incredible community.”

“We can’t wait to celebrate together. The listeners are the true stars of the show every morning.”

“We never imagined we’d be here after 3000 shows,” says Kel.

“It’s a privilege to do what we love every day and to see how TheLight continues to make a difference in people’s lives. This special broadcast event is our way of saying thank you.”

Lucy and Kel will celebrate their 3000th show at a live broadcast this Thursday, October 24, from 6am until 10am at Mitcham Social.
