The Mercedes Formula One team have expanded their partnership with Meta by adding Meta AI as an official team partner.
Confirmed:Fans can use Meta AI through the company’s suite of apps to analyse race strategies, share predictions with friends, edit photos and videos, and revisit season highlightsThe Meta AI logo will feature on the helmets of George Russell and Kimi AntonelliContext:
This partnership builds on Mercedes’ existing deal with WhatsApp, another Meta platform, which has served as the team’s official messaging partner since 2022. It also highlights the ongoing rise of Formula One teams looking towards the artificial intelligence (AI) category for new partnerships.
For example, McLaren recently announced AI-related deals with Groq and Iron Mountain, while Aston Martin have two AI partners in CoreWeave and Arm. Plus, Racing Bulls are designing their car with the help of AI engineering design platform Neural Concept and Williams are undergoing digital transformation initiatives through their Brillo partnership.
Comment:
“Partnering with Meta AI introduces new capabilities that support how we think, prepare, and perform as a team,” said Toto Wolff, chief executive and team principal of Mercedes.
“The ability to process data more efficiently and uncover deeper insights is a valuable asset in a sport where success is determined by marginal gains. It’s a natural fit to work with a partner who shares our commitment to continuous improvement and precision.”
Alex Schultz, chief marketing officer and vice president of analytics at Meta, added: “Bringing Meta AI to Formula One with Mercedes means fans can engage with the sport in smarter, more personalised ways – right from the apps they already love.
“As an F1 fan myself, I’m excited to see how people use AI to get closer to the action and connect with the sport like never before.”
Coming next:
This multi-year deal began at last weekend’s United States Grand Prix, and the AI collaboration will have a specific focus on fan engagement for those that regularly use Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.
