After comparing a woman’s engagement ring to the modest bling Belly received from Jeremiah on The Summer I Turned Pretty, Amazon Prime Video issued an apology.

A social media user named Savannah Monroe announced her engagement on Oct. 15 by posting a photo of the ring on X. The news came shortly after she made another post about how her boyfriend “has a Niall Horan dog tag hanging on his bedroom wall,” which ended up going viral.

“He proposed to me an hour after I posted this,” Monroe wrote. She included a photo of her ring, which featured a green gemstone set in a thin gold band.

As the post gained even more traction, some X users posted negative comments about the size of Monroe’s ring. The discourse came to a head when Prime Video India responded with a photo of Jeremiah holding the ring during the show’s third and final season.

“Girl is there any chance your fiancé looks like this 👀,” the platform wrote, according to The Wrap.

The ring seem on the hit series sparked backlash from fans, who largely took issue with the couple’s engagement for other reasons outlined in the show, with the ring essentially getting caught in the crossfire.

Even author Jenny Han agreed that “people were going in pretty hard on that ring.”

“I really wanted something that felt modest, humble and sweet, that Belly could maybe stack,” the author, 44, told Variety back in August. “Just thinking of her style, it’s more simple. She’s not about the flashy rings.”

In response to the Prime Video social media post, Monroe said she felt like they were out of line.

“When a huge streaming platform puts out a mean-spirited tweet about one of the happiest moments of your life for engagement, inviting harassment in droves,” Monroe wrote.

Following backlash to its post, Prime Video India issued an apology.

“Our recent tweet caused hurt and that’s not okay. We’ve removed it and are taking steps to ensure our content reflects our values of inclusivity,” they wrote. “We’ll do better from hereon.”

Neither Monroe nor Amazon Prime Video immediately responded to PEOPLE’s request for additional comment.
