It’s not unusual to see more wildlife in the fall as animals prepare for winter.
Bears, cougars and deer sightings are more common in October.
That’s been the case in Vernon, where a bear was roaming around W.L. Seaton Secondary School over the weekend and near Harwood Elementary.
There were no reports of conflict with the bear, according to the Conservation Office Service (COS), which will continue to monitor and respond if necessary.
Bear are actively searching for food before slumbering into hibernation. Therefore residents are urged to remove all attractants such as garbage, pet food, fallen fruit and even be cautious the Halloween pumpkins.
Cougar sightings have also been reported in the Silver Star Mountain area.
