Nearly two full decades after competing in the first season of America’s Got Talent, singer Jessica Sanchez returned to the AGT stage on Tuesday for another shot at superstardom.
To be fair, though, Sanchez is already kind of a superstar. After being eliminated during the AGT semifinals back in 2006 (how freaky was it hearing Regis Philbin’s voice in that flashback?!), Sanchez went on to compete in Season 11 of American Idol, finishing in second place behind Phillip Phillips. She then appeared in two Season 4 episodes of Glee, performing as Frida Romero.

But American viewers haven’t heard much from Sanchez since her 2013 stint on Glee… until now. Taking the stage on Tuesday, Sanchez soaked in the audience’s applause as she reintroduced herself to the world.
“AGT was the beginning of that fire sparked inside of me,” she explained. “Throughout the years, I kind of fell out of love with music, because I was young and I was so swayed by what people wanted me to be. So maybe it took me 20 years, but I know exactly who I am and exactly what I want. I’m excited to be back!”
After dropping another bombshell (she and her husband are expecting a baby!), Sanchez rolled right into her performance of Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” a perfect song choice for a voice as powerful as her’s.
“I think there is something very special happening on stage with you,” Sofia Vergara said. “You’re so beautiful, and you’re so ready to do all this. I really don’t understand what happened in these 20 years, but I guess they weren’t meant to be, because this was a special moment. And I think you deserve this.” With that, she slammed her hand down on her Golden Buzzer, sending Sanchez through to the live episodes.
