Tonight’s WWE Raw opened with an update on the World Heavyweight Championship and the status of Seth Rollins.
UPDATE: CM Punk’s opponent for vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night’s main event confirmed – click here for the latest.
Rollins suffered an injury in his match against Cody Rhodes at WWE Crown Jewel before being attacked by Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed on Raw two days later.
Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced an update at the start of tonight’s show, saying that Rollins has undergone “major surgery.”
He noted that Rollins will on the shelf for “quite a while.”
As a result, Seth Rollins has been stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the title is now vacant.
Pearce announed that plans are for a new champion to be crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Salt Lake City on November 1.
CM Punk, who earned a title match last week, will be in that championship match.
His opponent will be the winner of an over the top rope battle royal, which will take place on tonight’s WWE Raw in Sacramento.
Breakker, Reed and Paul Heyman joined Pearce in the ring for his announcement, with Breakker bringing out the World Title belt that he stole from Rollins after the attack last week.
He and Heyman handed it over to Pearce, but only after making Pearce say please.
We’ll provide updates throughout the night on who wins the battle royal and will be facing Punk at SNME.
