Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube provided a handful of updates regarding injuries and absences from his team on Wednesday.
Veteran centre Scott Laughton, who hasn’t played this season due to a lower-body injury suffered during the preseason on Oct. 2, is expected to get skate with the team on Thursday as the Maple Leafs get set to take on the Sabres in Buffalo on Friday in the first game of a home-and-home series.
“He’s trending really well…hopefully he’s back on the ice with us [in practice] shortly,” Berube said.
The 31-year-old scored two goals and two assists over 20 games with the Maple Leafs in 2024-25 after being acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers at the Trade Deadline. Laughton had just two assists across 13 playoff games.
Defenceman Chris Tanev left Tuesday’s 5-2 home loss to the New Jersey Devils with an upper-body injury.
Berube says he’s considered questionable at the moment.
The 35-year-old has one assist in seven games in 2025-26, his second season with the Maple Leafs.
Berube was unable to give an update on goaltender Joseph Woll, who has been on a leave of absence for the entire season.
“I don’t really have an update for you right now on Joe. He’s doing fine…when he’s back, he’s back” explained the coach.
Berube couldn’t confirm whether he’s returned skating or is he’s been in communication with him.
