The World Series marks the culmination of the baseball season, with this year’s matchup pitting two compelling narratives against one another. The Toronto Blue Jays, who are in their first Fall Classic in 32 years, host the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 1 of the 2025 World Series on Friday night.

The Dodgers, having lost just one game en route to their second consecutive pennant, arrive as a dynasty in the making, fueled by the otherworldly performance of two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. Los Angeles’ dominance was punctuated by Ohtani’s historic NLCS-clinching performance, where he hit three home runs while also striking out 10 batters as the starting pitcher — a feat hailed as one of the greatest individual games in postseason history.

With an elite starting rotation led by Ohtani, Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, plus a potent lineup featuring Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez, Los Angeles is favored to become the first team to repeat as World Series champions in a quarter-century.

Standing in the way of the Dodgers’ dynasty is a Blue Jays club that clawed its way to the American League pennant through an arduous playoff journey. After dispatching their fierce rivals, the New York Yankees, in a hard-fought Division Series, Toronto found itself in an instant classic against the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS.

Falling behind in the series multiple times, the Blue Jays showcased the grit and tenacity they became known for — they had the best record in the AL since May — culminating in a thrilling Game 7 victory powered by a go-ahead, three-run home run from veteran George Springer.

Led by the booming bat and timely hitting of ALCS MVP Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Blue Jays are playing in their first World Series in 32 years and are looking to ride their tremendous late-October momentum to a third-ever title.

The Sporting News has you covered with all the updates from Game 1 of the World Series between two of baseball’s most exciting teams. Follow along for all the action below.
