WANA (Oct 25) – Iranian mixed martial arts (MMA) athletes Tiam Dehpahlevan, Amir Mohammad Hatamian, and Ilya Vahedi secured gold medals at the Asian Youth Games.
Tiam Dehpahlevan, representing Iran in the 60kg women’s category, faced Mongolia’s Erdene Bat in the final on Saturday at 10:20 a.m. (Bahrain time). Dehpahlevan won in two rounds, earning Iran’s first-ever gold medal in women’s MMA at the youth games.
In the 60kg men’s category, Amir Mohammad Hatamian defeated Ratcliff of the Philippines in the final after two rounds, claiming gold for Iran.
Ilya Vahedi, competing in the 70kg men’s category, faced Tajikistan’s Omarjani in the final and emerged victorious in two rounds, securing another gold medal for the Iranian team.
The previous day, Kamand Karamzad, competing in the 50-kilogram traditional MMA style, succeeded in winning a bronze medal at the Asian Youth Championships in Bahrain by defeating strong opponents.
On the third day of the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, Iranian athletes are competing in 10 sports disciplines, including golf, taekwondo, futsal, 3×3 basketball, Muay Thai, mixed martial arts, e-sports, beach volleyball, athletics, and boxing.
