William Byron is on the pole for the Xfinity 500 NASCAR Cup Series race on Oct. 26 at Martinsville.
Byron’s lap of 19.286 seconds was 0.002 seconds faster than Ty Gibbs to take the pole in qualifying on Oct. 25. Byron begins the race weekend below the playoff cutline before the final Round of 8 race.
Ryan Blaney, the winner of the last two fall Martinsville races, struggled in qualifying and will start outside the top 30. His path to the Championship 4 is likely through victory, and that leaves a lot of work to be done in the 500-lap race.
