The 2025 ATP season is nearing its thrilling conclusion, with just one Masters 1000 tournament remaining – the Paris Masters.
This year, the event has a fresh location, transitioning from the Accor Arena in Bercy to the La Defense Arena in Nanterre, a mere eight miles away.
However, the tournament has already taken a hit, with several high-profile players and past champions forced to bow out. From Novak Djokovic to Holger Rune to Jack Draper, we provide you with a rundown of the athletes who have withdrawn from the season’s final Masters event.
Novak Djokovic
This withdrawal was sadly not a shocker. Djokovic also sat out the Paris Masters last year and hasn’t competed since clinching the title for an unprecedented seventh time in 2023.
The 38-year-old bowed out of his recent third-place playoff match at the Six Kings Slam exhibition, expressing his intention to address his physical issues before the season’s final few tournaments. He’s anticipated to participate in the ATP 250 in Athens, and possibly the ATP Finals.
Holger Rune
Rune endured a devastating injury during the recent Stockholm Open semi-final, breaking down in tears as he informed the physio that he “heard his ankle pop.” He withdrew from the match and his worst fears were soon realized – he had torn his Achilles tendon and has since undergone surgery. The 2022 champion is now likely to be out of action for most of the upcoming season.
Jack Draper
The British No. 1 had to cut his season short due to bone bruising on his left arm. After taking a seven-week break post-Wimbledon this summer, Draper made a comeback at the US Open, clinching his first match before withdrawing from the tournament and ultimately ending his season. He’s set to participate in the UTS London event in December before making a tour return in 2026.
Tommy Paul
Since the French Open, the American has been grappling with injuries. He reached the quarterfinals before his body finally succumbed, resulting in a one-sided loss to Carlos Alcaraz. Paul then suffered a tendon rupture in his foot during his second-round defeat at Wimbledon, leading to a month-long hiatus, during which he proposed to his girlfriend, Paige Lorenze. The world No. 20 made a comeback in Cincinnati but was eliminated in the third round, and hasn’t played since his third-round exit at the US Open.
Frances Tiafoe
Tiafoe recently parted ways with two key members of his team – Jordi Anaconda, who had been with him for five years, and coach David Witt – and wrapped up his season early. It’s been a lackluster season for the world No. 29, who concludes the year with a 26-23 record.
Arthur Fils
Fils kicked off the season strong, but a back injury during the French Open slowed him down, limiting him to just two singles matches since then. He attempted a brief comeback at the Canadian Open in late July, but it was short-lived. The 21-year-old has subsequently pulled out of every tournament he’s entered, including the Paris Masters, signaling the end of his injury-plagued season.
Stefanos Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas’ season has been marked by starts and stops due to a back injury. The world No. 25 hasn’t played a tour-level match since losing to Joao Fonseca in a Greece vs Brazil Davis Cup tie over a month ago. He was compelled to withdraw from the China Open and the Shanghai Masters but made a return at the Six Kings Slam, an exhibition event in Saudi Arabia. The ex-world No. 3 played a single match against Jannik Sinner. He later pulled out of this week’s ATP 500 event in Vienna just hours before his first-round match and will now be absent from the Paris Masters.
