ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb tennis teams wrapped up the Big South Individual Fall Championships on Sunday, October 26. The men’s team has wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule while the women will participate in the Wofford Invitational on November 7-9.

On the men’s side, the Runnin’ Bulldogs had impressive showings as sophomores Boyd Schreiber and Kaua Cressoni teamed up as the No. 4 seed in the main doubles draw, taking down NJIT’s No. 5 team of Soma Fukuhara and Maxime Hankins, 8-4, while advancing to the semifinals of the tournament.

Sophomore Alexandre Bergeron, playing as the No. 4 seed in singles action, took down No. 14 Ninad Raut by set scores of 6-1, 6-2 while No. 11 Schreiber picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over No. 6 Daniel Barisov of Longwood, both advancing into the quarterfinal round.

However, day two of the championships did not go as planned with Schreiber and Cressoni falling to the No. 1 duo of Mamalat and Samardzic of Presbyterian. In the singles bracket, Schreiber dropped a tough 6-3, 7-6 decision to No. 2 seed Puech. Bergeron was also defeated in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, against No. 5 Miguel Angel Machado of Bryant.

On the women’s side, No. 2 Emma Shasteen and Arili Boshoff took down No. 7 Valeria Centeno and Avery Sager of UNC Asheville, 8-6, during opening action before Alizée Poulin picked up a come-from-behind win over McKenzie Davis of Presbyterian in singles action with set scores of 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Shasteen and Boshoff went on to win consolation matches during day two action, both with straight set wins over their opponents.
