A national non-profit is seeking women aged 16 to 24 in Yellowknife to participate in a focus group on sexually transmitted infections or STIs.
Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights is hosting the 90-minute virtual focus group to get feedback on its campaign to encourage people to get tested every year as well as STI testing in Yellowknife.
Yellowknife resident Pretty Ngo is a member of Action Canada’s national youth advisory board.
Ngo said the focus group aims to learn about young women’s experience with STI testing in Yellowknife and knowledge of STIs.
“Participants do not need to be experts in STIs to share their opinions,” Ngo said.
Action Canada is a charitable organization that aims to advance and uphold sexual and reproductive rights in Canada and globally.
“My favourite thing to say is that Action Canada is like the Planned Parenthood of Canada,” Ngo said.
Among its work, the organization delivers a confidential, Canada-wide toll free access line that provides information, support and referrals to sexual and reproductive health services.
The Yellowknife focus group is set to take place over Zoom on Sunday, November 9 from 4:30-6pm.
Participants will receive a $75 honorarium.
Action Canada said people interested in participating in the focus group should contact andrew@actioncanadashr.org for more information and to register.
