A while back, I rounded up some overhyped TV shows that viewers felt were actually a huge waste of time. In the comments, members of the BuzzFeed Community shared even more examples! Here are 40 of their top responses:
Some responses are from this post and this post as well.
1. “Stranger Things is overhyped. It’s one of the shows that taught me that if EVERYONE is talking about it, I probably am not going to like it. Three seasons were out when I watched, and it was one of those things where I felt like I had already wasted so much time that I kept watching, waiting for it to get better. And nope. I think people are into the atmosphere more than anything else.”

“I enjoyed Stranger Things in the beginning, but I checked out halfway through Season 4. The changes in character personalities and motivations left me pretty disappointed.”

2. “I’ve never understood the appeal of Bridgerton. I really wanted to like it, but I was so bored. Does it get more interesting after two or three episodes?”

3. “The White Lotus Season 3, where basically nothing happened from episode to episode, and all of the nothingness was interspersed with dramatic shots of howling monkeys and swaying trees.”

4. “How was Tiger King not mentioned in the list or in the comments yet? It’s been years, and I still feel like Netflix owes me six hours’ worth of my time back. It was the last thing I watched on Netflix, actually. And if I didn’t get Netflix free with my phone bill, I would have canceled my subscription after that. Worst thing I’ve ever watched, and I’ll never trust another mass ‘this is the best thing ever’ suggestion again. For about a month following that, I didn’t even turn my TV on because I was so angry at how terribly boring that show was. For that reason, I’ve never watched Stranger Things, another mass suggestion. I’d rather spend the day watching golf or the weather channel without the ‘shows’ they have. Both of those would be more exciting than Tiger King was.”

5. “Honestly, for me, it was The Good Place. They should have just left it at Season 1.”

6. “Wednesday was bad in every way.”

“Wednesday. Tim Burton is my favorite, and this is the only thing of his that I don’t like. I watched the first three or four episodes or so, too, so it’s not like it was an ‘I couldn’t get through the first episode’ deal like Stranger Things was. Wednesday honestly felt like an attempt to take what little occult material there is from The Addams Family while also capitalizing on them being ‘creepy and kooky…mysterious and spooky’ (at least in the TV show, but it is more prominent in the movies) and make it their whole identity. The werewolves, sirens, vampires, etc. in this show really rubbed me the wrong way — it’s just not what The Addams Family is about, and this wasn’t them.”

10. “Schitt’s Creek is the answer here for me. I’ve tried twice to watch it and just couldn’t get through the first episode. It’s just not my style of humor at all.”

11. “I had a similar experience with Parks and Recreation. I literally could not finish the first episode. But apparently, those are both shows where if you can power through a rough start, you are well rewarded later on.”

14. “For me, it’s Ted Lasso. It’s always being advertised and winning awards, and people recommend it to me all the time. I think I watched two seasons and just had zero interest. Maybe because I don’t like sports, although most of the people who told me to watch it also don’t care for sports, so I don’t know.”

15. “Severance is so slow.”
16. “I know I will be an outcast here, but I had a difficult time with The Sopranos. I watched it streaming just a couple of months ago. I couldn’t get into how dense the whole gang was. I realize they were not supposed to be lovable, but I couldn’t even like any. I gave up at the end of the second season. To me, the hype was really over the top.”

27. “Girls… Hannah was so annoying, I couldn’t stand it.”

28. “Gonna be a nerd and call out Star Trek from Discovery on. Completely lost the utopian intellectualism of previous Trek shows and replaced it with lots of shit blowing up and being depressing as fuck.”
29. “For me, it’s always been Star Trek: The Next Generation. I loved the original, but I only watched it out of order in reruns as a kid. It was clearly made in its time, but it was brilliant. I struggled through several seasons of TNG and could feel the boredom physically. I absolutely believe a ton of talented people were involved, including cast members, but it was mind-searingly dull.”

30. “My god, The Witcher was so bad. The books, the games — phenomenal. The dialogue of the show was so horrible, only made worse by the acting. I tried to get through three episodes ’cause people said it got so good after that. And people loved that song. But it was all garbage. My wife and I love Henry Cavill, but she couldn’t even make it through one episode. God, it was awful.”

31. “A few years ago, I was into wanting to begin to watch all of the original Netflix shows that were out there at the time, in order from best-reviewed to the worst, starting with comedies. At the time, Master of None with Aziz Ansari as the lead was the highest-rated comedy show. I got through all of the first season with the exception of the final episode and never returned. It wasn’t funny, and the few times it tried to be slightly dramatic fell completely flat. I do not in any way find Aziz Ansari funny. If anything, I find him painfully annoying. I don’t know how it got renewed for a third season.”

33. “The live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender reboot that Netflix did. I get that you have to change some stuff when you go from animated to live-action, but some of the plot points they changed made absolutely no sense. It’s not even Avatar anymore, even though the casting was amazing, and the costumes and effects were on point! The writing just fell short for me and could have been more true to the original.”

38. “And Just Like That… was so outlandish and unrealistic. Those three women did not go on to amass all that wealth in NYC and just happen to be friends from the poor days to the wealthy days. But again, if people love it, more power to them.”

39. “Add Gunsmoke as another boring, bad one. Can’t believe it lasted as long as it did.”

40. And finally: “One of the absolute worst shows and just boring as fuck was M*A*S*H. I know there are some who think it was funny and great, but if you really rewatch, you will come to the conclusion that you must have been high to think it was good.”
