Floyd Schofield Sr. says his son’s recent left-hand injury was a result of him having “grown man strength” and “hits too hard”. The left-hand sprain resulted in lightweight contender Schofield Jr. (19-0, 13 KOs) postponing his November 8th fight against Joseph ‘Jojo’ Diaz until February 2026.
“Grown Man Strength” Gone Wrong
“His next fight is at the end of February or the beginning of March. And it should be for the world title. He’s in line to fight Tank or Lucas Baldi,” said Floyd Schofield Sr. to MillCity Boxing about his son’s next fight.
Schofield Sr. sounded mixed up during the interview. He started by saying his son’s next fight in February will be for a world title at lightweight. Later, he talked about rescheduling his fight with Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz in 2026.
There’s little chance that Gervonta Davis would agree to fight a dangerous puncher like Schofield Jr., because that’s not been his style. If anything, he’ll swerve him, vacate, or retire.
“I just got to get back, make sure my hand is healed correctly, and just chill out,” said Schofield Jr. about his left hand injury.
Fans Cry Wolf on Another Pullout
Boxing fans on social media doubt the legitimacy of Schofield’s injury, viewing it as a case of him pulling out again because he didn’t want to fight. This is the second fight in 2025 that Schofield has pulled out of on short notice.
For his scheduled title shot against WBC lightweight champion Shakur on February 22, 2025, Schofield pulled out four days before the contest on February 18, due to a mysterious illness. Fans think he got stage fright and chickened out. Now the left-hand injury.
“He sprained his wrist. He didn’t fracture his hand,” said Schofield Sr. about his son. “We rock in sparring. We don’t go pitty-patting in sparring. It’s war.”
Floyd Sr. went on to say Schofield’s wrist sprain is different from the hand injury that Shakur Stevenson has. He points out that Shakur broke his hand, and claims it’ll never heal back right.
