Over £500MILLION was made in pay-per-views alone – with a US record 4.4m sold – and a further £55m banked in ticket sales.

But after Mayweather ended half a decade’s worth of speculation with a points win – a big-money rematch never materialised – but talks refused to go away.

Now, over ten years later and the two boxing icons are back in negotiations for a shock rematch.

Netflix – the sport’s newest broadcast players – are ready to front the cash for the fight – eyed for March or April.

Tyson vs Mayweather update as icon’s team hit back at Jake Paul fight fix claim

The streaming giants exploded onto the boxing scene last November when Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson – with over 100 MILLION tuning in.

Terence Crawford’s win over Canelo Alvarez also brought 43m Netflix viewers while Paul takes on Gervonta Davis in a November 14 exhibition bout.

It is not clear if Mayweather, 48, will put his prestigious 50-0 professional record on the line or whether he will return for another spectacle bout.

But the American icon has teased a comeback to defend his undefeated legacy in 2026.

He officially retired after beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor in 2017 – but has continued to box in exhibition bouts since.

Mayweather has faced boxers, MMA fighters and social media influencers in his retirement tour – last facing the grandson of notorious mob boss John Gotti in August 2024.

He has signed to face Tyson in an exhibition next year – but those plans could be KO’d if Pacquiao, 46, gets there first.

The Filipino great returned to the ring in July to controversially challenge for Mario Barrios’ WBC world title despite four years in retirement.

And he was deemed unfortunate to walk away with just a draw – failing in his bid to become champ once again.

Pacquiao has vowed to fight on but also celebrated becoming the Vice President of IBA Pro – who welcome Mayweather to a rematch.

Al Siesta, IBA Pro’s Director General, told SunSport in Manila: “I think he’s got some fight in him still and if he wants to fight, we will endorse that.

“We are welcoming Floyd Mayweather against Manny Pacquiao at IBA Pro. We will be delighted and honoured to stage the fight.”

IBA – formerly known as AIBA – lost its Olympic recognition in 2023 over allegations of corruption.

They continue to host amateur world championship events but have now moved into the world of pro boxing – with Pacquiao now a key part of their operation.

Siesta said: “We’re gonna be collaborating together and doing some good work together. I can tell you that our doors are open for everyone.

“We’re here for boxing, not for politics. We build bridges, we’re not putting up walls, this is our endeavour to develop the boxing world for the better.

“This is very important as a big mission and civil responsibility for the IBA to build big friendships, collaborations and eventually some business if we’re lucky.”
