Logan Cooley is sticking around in Salt Lake City.
The Utah Mammoth announced an eight-year, $80 million deal for the 21-year-old forward on Wednesday. The deal carries an average annual value of $10 million.
“The atmosphere at the Delta Center in front of our fans is unreal and [owners] Ryan and Ashley Smith have given our team every resource to succeed, which is all you can ask for as a player,” Cooley said in a statement. “We have an opportunity to do something special here thanks to the incredible people in the organization. This is an awesome day for me and my family, and I am proud to commit to the state of Utah and to the Mammoth.”
A native of Pittsburgh, Cooley was originally taken with the third overall selection of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft out of the USHL’s United States National Development team. After a season at Minnesota, he made his NHL debut during the 2023-2024 campaign, playing the full 82 games for the then-Arizona Coyotes.
“Logan is not only an incredible player but an even better person and we look forward to watching him grow,” general manager Bill Armstrong said in a statement. “He, along with the rest of our core group, will have an impact in Utah for many years to come. It’s a great day for Mammoth fans and another exciting moment for our organization.”
Cooley has eight goals and four assists through 11 games this season.
For his career, Cooley has notched 53 goals and 68 assists in 168 games over three seasons.
Internationally, Cooley has represented the United States at various levels including at two IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships and at the 2025 IIHF World Championship this past spring in Sweden and Denmark where he scored four goals and added eight assists in 10 games as the U.S. captured the gold medal.
The Mammoth (8-3-0) return to action on Sunday when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning (4-4-2).
Key Mammoth Pieces Locked in Through 2027-28
Cooley becomes the latest key piece of the Mammoth to sign long-term with the team.
Utah made a major splash this summer, acquiring J.J. Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres and signing him to a five-year, $38.5 million deal.
Eleven members of the Mammoth are now signed through at least 2027-28, with Cooley, Peterka, Dylan Guenther, Jack McBain, Mikhail Sergachev and Karel Vejmelka all signed through at least 2029-30.
Blueliners Sergachev, Sean Durzi, Olli Maata and Nate Schmidt are all part of those 11 players signed for two more years beyond this one, along with forwards Clayton Keller and Brandon Tanev.
Utah still figures to have money to spend next summer with $27.7 million in projected cap space, per Puckpedia, with 15 players under contract for next season.
Nick Schmaltz, Alexander Kerfoot and Vitek Vanecek headline the team’s remaining pending unrestricted free agents.
