Megadeth have been teasing the tracklist for their upcoming self-titled final album, and it appears that one of the tunes is a cover of Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning.” That particular song was co-written by early Metallica member and founding Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine.
On their social media pages, Megadeth have been slowly revealing the tracklist, and in the latest tease, it certainly seems like one of the tracks is a newly recorded version of “Ride the Lightning,” although all the letters haven’t been fully displayed as of this posting.

The inclusion of “Ride the Lightning” falls in line with a hint Mustaine gave in an interview with the Norwegian radio program Stjernepose in June, saying, “We have 13 new songs for the new album… One of the songs is a cover song but I actually wrote it, so it’s kind of like a cover, kind of like my song.”

A cover of a song he wrote sounds awfully like him describing a Metallica song. The guitarist was kicked out of Metallica and replaced with Kirk Hammett before the recording of their 1983 debut, Kill ‘Em All, but his songwriting is credited on four of those tunes. While he was long out of the band by 1984’s Ride the Lightning, he is credited with co-writing the title track and “The Call of Ktulu” on that album.
Other song titles on the upcoming Megadeth album, which arrives January 23rd, include the recent lead single, “Tipping Point,” as well as “I Don’t Care,” “Hey God?!,” “Let There Be Shred,” “Puppet Parade,” “Another Bad Day,” “Made to Kill,” and “Obey the Call.”
Fans can catch Megadeth when they support Iron Maiden on a recently announced 2026 North American tour. A Live Nation ticket pre-sale started today, October 29th, at 10 a.m. local time for Live Nation All Access members, while general ticket sales begin Friday, October 31st, at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
