Since getting behind the wheel of the No. 1 in 2022, he’s earned one win (November 2023), three top-five and four top-10 finishes. In November 2023, Chastain led 157 laps and captured his fourth career Cup Series win. He took the checkered flag with a 1.23-second lead over second-place and season champion Ryan Blaney.
Meet Chastain: On Friday at 1 p.m. local time, Chastain will sign autographs at the Trackhouse Racing merchandise hauler located in the Fan Zone – wristband required. On Sunday at 9:15 a.m. he will appear at the Team Chevy stage located in the Fan Zone.

Most Wins for No. 1 Car in Cup Series: The No. 1 car has been to victory lane six times with Chastain since 2022, the most wins by a driver with that number. Jamie McMurray previously held the record with four victories in the No. 1 car.

Chastain Quotes:

You’ve been the spoiler before at the Phoenix championship race. How difficult is it to do that?

“A lot of that depends on how good your car is. Typically, we always run pretty well at Phoenix and Phil (Surgen) does a great job in giving me a car that’s really drivable there. We also get a little extra practice which is different from most weekends. And when you’re not running for the championship and are solely focused on winning, you can use different strategy in comparison to the Championship 4 guys. Winning in the championship race is just as important as it is any other weekend. There is nothing better than going to victory lane at the last race of the season like we did in 2023.”

What do you plan to do in the off season?

“I’m going to stay in Phoenix and hit the NASCAR banquet. I plan to get home to Florida and see the family and we’ll have a fall crop harvesting and get the spring crop ready. Not that I do a lot of work but I like to look at it and get in my brother’s (Chad) way when I can (laughs). December in South Florida staying in a double-wide, it’s hard to beat it.”

NOTES

Finale in Phoenix: Shane van Gisbergen will make his second Cup Series start at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Ariz., on Sunday afternoon. Van Gisbergen started 29th at the one-mile track back in March and was credited with a 31st-place finish after being sidelined by an accident.
Last Weekend in Martinsville: Van Gisbergen started 22nd but soon worked his way forward through traffic and into the top-15, where he ran for much of the race. He recorded a 14th-place finish at the .526-mile oval, and has finished 14th or better in four of the last five races.
Rookie Records: Van Gisbergen holds the record of most wins by a Sunoco Rookie in a single season (five). The Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International victory makes Van Gisbergen the fastest driver to five Cup Series wins since Dan Gurney in 1968. Following his Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway win, Van Gisbergen became the first driver since Jeff Gordon to win three consecutive road course Cup races from the pole. The Auckland, New Zealand native is the only driver not from the United States to win at least four NASCAR Cup Series races.
Two-Time Inaugural Race Winner: Van Gisbergen has etched himself into the NASCAR history books by winning two inaugural NASCAR Cup Series races. The New Zealand native captured the win in the first-ever Mexico City race in June, and in 2023, Van Gisbergen won his debut Cup Series race with Trackhouse’s PROJECT91 at the Chicago Street Race.
Winning Crew Chief: Stephen Doran is now a five-time winning crew chief after securing the checkered flag at the Charlotte ROVAL earlier this month. Doran’s first win as a Cup Series Crew Chief in June at Mexico City with Van Gisbergen. Doran is in his first season as Van Gisbergen’s crew chief on the No. 88 Chevrolet and his second year as a crew chief at the Cup level.

Multiyear Extension: What began as a one-off PROJECT91 race in 2023, continued as a successful Xfinity Series campaign in 2024 and turned into a record-breaking NASCAR Cup Series run in 2025, will continue for years to come as Shane van Gisbergen and Trackhouse Racing announced a multi-year contract extension. The agreement will keep the former V8 Supercars driver at Trackhouse Racing.
Meet SVG: On Saturday at 11:15 a.m. local time, Van Gisbergen will be participating in a Q&A at the Chevrolet Display located in the Fan Zone. On Sunday at 9:30 a.m., Van Gisbergen will sign autographs at the Trackhouse Racing merchandise hauler also located in the Fan Zone (wristband required).
Wins in WeatherTech Colors: Three of Van Gisbergen’s wins in his Cup Series rookie campaign came in WeatherTech colors. Van Gisbergen secured his second win of the season in WeatherTech’s backyard in the Streets of Chicago. His other two wins in the WeatherTech livery came at Watkins Glen (NY) International and the Charlotte ROVAL.

Van Gisbergen Quotes:

Talk about your Sunoco Rookie season and how much you’ve progressed on the ovals.

“It’s been a fun season but challenging too. The road courses, obviously, have been amazing, and then the ovals – I started the year finishing in the 30s, but I feel like we’ve grounded out, now we’re a 15th to 10th place car on most weeks. I think how much better we’ve gotten is a pretty awesome feeling, but certainly those first ten weeks of the year were eye-opening. We’ve made huge progress on the ovals the last couple of months, so we just need to keep building off that and we will be in a good spot to start next season.”

It’s a big deal to win five races as a Cup Series rookie. What does that mean to you?

“It means everything. That’s why I moved here, and that’s why Justin believed in me, and he knew I could do this. I’ve changed my life to come and do this, and to come and make true of what everyone believed in me and to execute myself and get everything right, it’s why I go racing. As I said, sharing it with those people and seeing how much it means to the guys who work so hard every week on the car and their pit stops, it’s so cool. It means the world to everyone. To see the guys at the shop who did all the prep work for these wins too, and I love the team environment. It’s been a great year for the team.”

NOTES:

Suárez Stats and Milestones at Trackhouse Racing: Daniel Suárez will be making his final start with Trackhouse Racing this weekend at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Ariz. The 33-year old native of Monterrey, Mexico, made the first Cup start in the five-year history of Trackhouse Racing at the 2021 Daytona 500. In 2022, Suárez won his first-career Cup Series race with Trackhouse at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway, leading the most laps (47 of 110) and taking the checkered flag 3.849 seconds ahead of second-place. He added his second-career win in 2024 at Echo Park (Atlanta, Ga.) Speedway. Phoenix will mark the 180th start for Suárez at Trackhouse Racing. In addition to two victories, the pairing has produced 16 top-five and 43 top-10 finishes plus a pole position in 2023 at the Indianapolis (Ind.) Grand Prix.
Phoenix Stats: Suárez has 17 Cup Series starts at Phoenix. He has four top-10 finishes, most recently a 10th-place effort in the in the 2024 season finale at the one-mile desert oval. His best finish was a seventh-place effort in 2017. Suárez has 11 lead lap finishes at Phoenix and has failed to finish just one race, completing 95.71 percent of the total possible laps (5,087 of 5,315).
Last Weekend at Martinsville: Suárez battled handling issues throughout the 500-lap race on the paperclip shaped half-mile track but persevered to collect a 22nd-place finish.
Career Highlights: In addition to his two Cup Series victories, Suárez owns three Busch Light Pole Awards – Pocono (Pa.) Raceway July 2018, Kentucky Speedway July 2019, and on the road course at the Indianapolis.
Personal Life: Suárez married Julia Piquet, daughter of three-time Formula One World Champion Nelson Piquet, at a ceremony on July 30 in Brazil. The couple took a delayed honeymoon trip to Japan in the offseason. He is also now a dual citizen of Mexico and the United States. He took the American Oath of Allegiance at a naturalization ceremony last June in front of media, friends, the NASCAR industry and NASCAR Commissioner Steve Phelps, who gave the keynote address to the 48 new citizens from 28 countries who joined Suárez at the ceremony. The 33-year-old Monterrey, Mexico native arrived in America about 13 years ago, unable to speak English.
Mexico Success: Suárez returned to his native country in June as NASCAR held its inaugural race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. A week of fan and media activity included a 19th-place finish in the Cup race. But few will forget his drive from last place to first in the No. 9 Quaker State Chevrolet for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series race and the celebration in front of the raucous fans. It marked the first time in any NASCAR series that a driver had done that on a road course. His victory, coupled with Van Gisbergen’s, marks the first time since 2009 that international drivers have swept a race weekend.
Trackhouse Racing and Suárez Agree to Part Ways: Trackhouse Racing and Suárez announced on July 1 that they have mutually decided to conclude their partnership following the 2025 season.

Suárez’s Helmet This Weekend

This weekend, Suárez will wear his Mexico City helmet designed by Juan Latapi. The No. 99 Chevrolet’s Phoenix paint scheme is inspired by the helmet.

Suárez Quotes:

Have you taken time to think about what Monday after Phoenix will be like for you?

“My years with Trackhouse have been the best years of my Cup career, not just on-track, but off-track, building something with people and thinking outside the box, being different; I loved that. That’s something that can’t be taken away from me. I’ve been part of huge organizations that never made me feel as important as Trackhouse made me feel in the early years and that’s what I want to keep with me. At the same time, I can’t wait for the future. I’m only 33 years old and feel like I’m in the prime of my career.”

What has Trackhouse has meant to you? You were a part of the organization from the very beginning.

“Trackhouse was literally a piece of paper the first time I heard about the team. It was interesting to me, because I was coming from a team that was an upstart project, but when the COVID epidemic hit, it didn’t work out. Essentially Trackhouse was a similar project. I believed in it right away; my dad and others did not, but my gut was telling me that it was something good after talking with Justin.

“I followed my gut, and I wasn’t wrong. I was super happy because I believed Trackhouse was probably the first team in the NASCAR Cup Series that gave me 100% trust. We were able to build something very good together and I’m very proud of that. Definitely the best moments of my career in the Cup Series have been at Trackhouse and that’s another thing I’m going to keep with me.”
