The pitching lines

Both pitchers were fantastic – Yamamoto was just a bit better than Gausman, who was nearly perfect outside of that Dodger third inning.

Yamamoto

6IP 5H 1R 1ER 1BB 6K 0HR

Gausman

6IP 3H 3R 3ER 2BB 8K 0HR

Tremendous work by both pitchers in a huge spot.

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 7th

Gimenez waves at a fastball – strike three! Inning over! Wrobleski throws a blank in the seventh! Five left on base by the Jays tonight.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 7th

Foul ball. It’s still 2-2. Battle with so much on the line here in the 7th.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 7th

Gimenez lays off a breaking ball ow and away. 2-2.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 7th

Gimenez is jammed and fouls the next pitch off. Still 1-2.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 7th

The 0-2 fastball is high to Gimenez. It’s 1-2.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 7th

Gimenez will not be pinch hit for. He takes a big cut for strike one then fouls off a pitch to go down 0-2 in the count. Meanwhile, Sasaki starts to warm for LA in the bullpen.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 7th

Yamamoto is out! Credit that last inning for tiring out Yamamoto. So now Toronto has a crack at the dubious Dodger bullpen to try and use those last nine outs to win a World Series.

Justin Wrobleski has two quick outs! The first comes on a stellar bare handed grab by the second baseman Rojas. Then Barger strikes out!

Two down for Clement!

And he doubles! The tying run comes to the plate in the form of Gimenez and Mark Prior heads to the mound to speak to Wrobleski!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 7th

Tommy Edman steps to the plate. FOX TV voices are already talking about the Ohtani DH/pitcher situation for Game 7. But we got a ways to go. Bit early for that boys!

Edman pops to center. Inning over!

It’s stretch time in Toronto!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 7th

Varland blows away Hernandez! Two outs!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 7th

OK, so Gausman is out six solid. Louis Varland is in. He gets Muncy straight away – a pop out to right retires the third baseman.

Hernandez is next.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

Varsho waves at a splitter – inning over! That ends the Blue Jay threat!

Yamamoto though six! But the Jays did escalate his pitch count.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

Foul ball, the count is 1-2 against Varsho. Yamamoto is up to 95 pitches.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

Yamamoto disengages and fakes a throw to second. Then he misses fo ball four! It’s a Yamamoto walk! Those you don’t see too often!

Two on, two out with Daulton Varsho at the plate! Everybody up in Toronto in this enormous, crucial moment.

It’s a 1-1 count.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

Fouled back. We do it again. Full count!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

Yamamoto misses way up again! The count is full!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

Bichette fouls off a pitch. It’s 2-2.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

2-1 to Bichette after Yamamoto misses badly high.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

Guerrero has a hit with one hand into the left field corner. It’s a two out double! Here comes Bichette, who is hella dangerous! Dodgers pitching coach Mark Pior checks in with Yamamoto.

Huge moment here with two outs for Toronto!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

No streaker luck for Lukes. He skies to center for the second out. It’s up to Vladdy in the Jays sixth.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

We have a streaker, or some sort of field invader, but we don’t get to see! Booooooo! Smart move by the crowd trying to throw off Yamamoto. Will it work? Lukes is ahead in the count 2-1.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 6th

Yamamoto makes quick work of Springer, who grounds out to short. One down. Here’s Lukes.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 6th

Hernandez grounds out to short. Gausman is through six with one costly frame in his ledger. He’s thrown 93 pitches.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 6th

It’s 1-2 to Hernandez. The crowd is up! Pitch. – low and away.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 6th

Betts grounds out to short for out no2. Now the ex-Jay Hernandez steps in with nobody on in what has been a quiet inning. So far.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 6th

Freeman pops out to shortstop. That’s an easy out to start the sixth. Now Betts is back. Is he about to catch fire?

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 5th

Barger watches a fastball fly by. And Yamamoto is just impossible to figure out. Two down.

Clement has an idea – he knocks one into the hole at short. Betts can’t handle it, and that’s a two out hit.

But then Gimenez skies to center.

Inning over. Yamamoto has thrown 75 pitches through five. Too efficient for Toronto.

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 5th

Oh what a pitch by Yamamoto! His splitter inside totally crosses up Kirk and is just not fair. One down. Here’s Barger, who has a bit of magic in his bat for sure. It’s just, when is this magic available?

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 5th

Kirk fouls two balls off to the right side. It’s 2-2.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 5th

John Schneider is being interviewed. He says George Springer is “tough man”. I guess he’s right.

It’s 1-2 to the dangerous Kirk.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 5th

It’s a good cut from Smith and a line drive to left, but Lukes is right there to make the catch. Side retired.

Gausman: 82 pitches through five.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 5th

In the end, it’s a harmless bouncer to first, easy for Guerrero, who makes the play and steps on first for the second out.

Now here is Smith’s nemesis, Will Smith! I’d be careful here!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 5th

Another foul ball. Long at-bat! Scary for Blue Jays fans. Will Ohtani wear out Gausman?

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 5th

He hits a ball off his leg. Ouch! He limps around for a minute, which means a home run is coming up, probably.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 5th

Count full to Ohtani!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 5th

Then Ohtani lifts a ball into foul territory. It’s still 2-2.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 5th

Ohtani is down in the count, 1-2, then lays out a pitch low and away.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 5th

Bottom of the lineup now for LA, and Rojas beggns the Dodger fifth with a fly out to right. One down.

Here’s Ohtani, who Gausman is pitching to.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 4th

Varsho waves at a splitter – it’s 1-2.

Then a grounder two second. Rojas has it, tosses to Betts for one, who fires to first, double play! Inning over!

Yamamoto rebounds in the fourth. The Japanese hurler is through four on 58 pitches. Pretty efficient!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 4th

Bichette has the Jays third base hit tonight with a knock to left. One on, one out for Varsho.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, bottom 4th

Yamamoto locates a split down and in. That pitch is not hittable. Strike three! Bichette is next.

Graham Searles is on a train!

“Thanks for the coverage, never have I been more glad to be on a 3 hour train to Wolverhampton at 1am than watching this. The way the commentators were talking down Mookie Betts. I was expecting him to strike out but he nailed it, roll on game seven!”

FOX interviewed Dave Roberts last inning and he was quite happy that Betts came through, that’s for sure.

Good luck on that train! Say hi to Wolverhampton for me!

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 4th

It’s 2-2 to Edman. FOX TV in the US says Gausman has gotten swings and misses on 75% of his pitches. Which is a lot.

Edman pops out to third. Inning over.

Gausman 67 pitches through four.

Share

Dodgers 3-1 Blue Jays, top 4th

Mucbny bounces to short. One down. Gausman has thrown 612 pitches through 3 1/3 innings pitched.

Now Hernandez pops up high to second. That’s easy for Bichette. Two down.

Edman, who had a big double and scored an inning ago, is back in the box.

Kirkby is back!

“Walking Ohtani has put Gausman off his game, if they keep walking him, it’s curtains for the Jays. More at bats, more runs.”

Interesting. The more I consider that, the more I think maybe you’re on to something. Still, it’s hard to argue against it with first base open. If he pitches to Ohtani there and he comes through, Schneider is facing a LOT of heat.

Lukes skies out to left, inning over, but not before Toronto claws a run back!

To the fourth!

It’s 3-0! Springer even grimaces on a check swing.

Dodgers 3-0 Blue Jays, bottom 3rd

Gimenez strikes a line shot to second that puts Rojas on his back! He recovers to throw out the runner at first. Two down, Barger moves to third, and here’s Springer in a big spot.

Does he have enough in the tank to come through against the Dodgers ace?

Share

Dodgers 3-0 Blue Jays, bottom 3rd

Gimenez waves at a change up and it’s 3-2.

Share

Dodgers 3-0 Blue Jays, bottom 3rd

Considering Yamamoto pitched a complete game against Toronto his last time on the bump, the Jays really need to score here and get off the schnide vs the Japanese hurler.

All that said, Clement is down on three pitches. One out, and it’s Gimenez to the plate in the nine hole. The light hitting shortstop has had his share of big hits this October.

Share

Dodgers 3-0 Blue Jays, bottom 3rd

It’s 7,8,9 for Toronto and Barger starts it off for the home team. He’s quickly in the hole 1-2. Then he has a knock off the side wall in left field! The bounce means he can turn the corner and tun two! So now the Jays have a lead off runner in their half of the third!

Clement is next with a runner in scoring position.

Teoscar Hernandez becomes Gausman’s third strikeout victim and the inning is over. But not before significant damage. A three run deficit is a big hurdle the way Yamamoto is throwing right now.

Bases loaded, two outs, and a chance for Mookie Betts to snap out of it in the biggest of spots. The key for Toronto all series has been avoiding the big inning.

This is a big test.

It’s a 1-1 count.
