Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ head coach Scott Milanovich can attest Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback Trevor Harris played at another level during the 2025 CFL regular season.
“I think Trevor’s playing the best football of his career right now,” Milanovich told Justin Dunk on the 620 CKRM Rider Broadcast Network. “When I first had him in Toronto, he had the ability to move around a little bit and he was an underrated guy in the pocket. As he’s gotten older, he’s still nifty in the pocket, he’s not going to run it as much, but his accuracy is as good as anybody in football. His understanding of the game and where to go with the ball, nobody’s getting the ball out of his hands quicker than Trevor in football.”
Milanovich was the Toronto Argonauts head coach in 2012 when Harris came into the CFL with the double blue. The pair spent four seasons together prior to Harris leaving to sign a free agent contract with the Ottawa Redblacks.
This season, the 39-year-old Harris started 16 games for the Green and White. He completed 73.5 percent of his passes for 4,549 yards with 24 touchdowns versus 11 interceptions. Among CFL quarterbacks, Harris ranked first in completion percentage, second in QB rating at 110.7, and fourth in touchdown passes.
“I think it’s innate,” Milanovich said as to why Harris has a high completion percentage. “I think you can help guys with accuracy, but the true Ricky Rays, guys that are going to put it on the fingertips, keep a guy running, that’s something I think that’s hard to coach.”
Milanovich’s professional playing career went from 1996 through 2003. He spent time in the NFL, NFL Europe, CFL, AFL and XFL. After Milanovich’s playing career was done, he started coaching in 2003 in NFL Europe before coming to the CFL and spent time in the NFL. He’s won three Grey Cups, the first two were with the Montreal Alouettes in 2009 and 2010 and his third Grey Cup was with the Argonauts in 2012. During the 2012 CFL season, Milanovich won the CFL’s Coach of the Year award when he was with the Argos.
Another player Milanovich did not hesitate to praise was all-star Ticats’ receiver Kenny Lawler.
“He’s a great competitor. I didn’t know Kenny at all before he got here, but he loves football, he practices hard every day,” Milanovich explained. “I have to get on him about not diving for balls in practice. He’s gonna block, he does everything that you would want, and he’s got a champion’s pedigree. I think he has risen to the level of some of our other guys on this team.”
Lawler dressed in 18 games for Hamilton, he ranked second in the CFL among receivers when it comes to receiving yards with 1,443 and first in touchdown receptions with 14.
