The Toronto Blue Jays, who started the season with tempered expectations and plenty of question marks, find themselves one win away from securing a World Series title for the first time since 1993. Sitting tied 3-3 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the teams enter a winner-takes-all Game 7 at Rogers Centre on Saturday night.

After the two clubs split Games 1 and 2 in Toronto — highlighted by an offensive explosion in Game 1 by the Jays, followed by a pitching masterclass by Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 2 — the series moved to Southern California for Games 3 to 5, where there was no shortage of drama.

The Dodgers pulled off an absolutely wild 18-inning win in Game 3, one that saw the Blue Jays use every single position player and pitcher on their roster just to fall short via a game-winning home run off the bat of Canadian — and last year’s World Series MVP — Freddie Freeman.

The Jays could’ve easily packed it in at that point following the crushing loss, but as the team has done all season, it got off the mat just when you thought it was over and reeled off two straight wins in dominant fashion, outscoring the Dodgers 12-3 over Games 4 and 5 to pull within one win of the team’s third World Series and first in 32 years.

However, back in Toronto, the Dodgers responded, as their bats came alive just enough to squeak out a 3-1 win, and push the series to a Game 7.

In what promises to be either a triumphant or heartbreaking ending to the season for the Blue Jays and their fans, here’s everything you need to know about how to watch — and what to watch for — in Saturday’s highly-anticipated Game 7 showdown, as Toronto has a chance to bring the MLB championship north of the border once again.

Key storylines, performances from the first 5 games of the World SeriesGame 6: Dodgers respond as Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivers another stellar start

Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto put on another impressive outing, limiting the Jays to one run through six innings, which was brought in by George Springer as he returned to the lineup. Kevin Gausman for the Jays was arguably equally impressive on the mount, with eight strikeouts across six innings.

Given the pitching displays, the Dodgers eventually just needed one inning to see their bats come alive, as they drove in three runs in the third, which eventually became the deciding factor. The Blue Jays had two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, but ultimately came up short, making way to a Game 7.

The ninth also was home to what’s arguably one of the more controversial calls in World Series history.

Game 5: Blue Jays take control with early power surge, legendary Yesavage performance

Game 5 saw the Blue Jays reassert dominance with a commanding 6-1 win, propelled by early fireworks as Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. blasted back-to-back leadoff home runs — a World Series first — on the first and third pitches of the game.

Rookie righty Trey Yesavage delivered an absolutely legendary pitching performance, as the 22-year-old scoffed at the pressure of the big stage and struck out 12 batters while posting zero walks, another World Series first. Yesavage held the Dodgers to just one run over 6 2/3 innings in what was without a doubt one of the greatest pitching performances ever in a World Series Game.

It set the stage for the Blue Jays to return to Toronto with two chances to clinch the title at home.

Game 4: Blue Jays bounce-back after heartbreaking loss to even the series

After the 18-inning marathon loss in Game 3, the Blue Jays showed the resilience they’ve shown all postseason, responding with a 6-2 victory on the road to even the Fall Classic at 2-2. Shane Bieber delivered an excellent pitching effort, limiting the Dodgers’ potent lineup and striking out Shohei Ohtani multiple times.

Veteran starter Chris Bassitt, meanwhile, delivered a clutch performance out of the bullpen, posting two innings of one-hit ball. Offensively, Toronto’s blend of power and persistence helped them pull away, including key homers by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ernie Clement, who have both been dynamite all October.

Game 3: Marathon Thriller Ends with Freeman’s Walk-Off Homer

Game 3 delivered a spectacle for the ages at Dodger Stadium. The contest tied the record for the longest World Series Game at an absurd 18 innings, which took nearly seven hours of play.

The tension built through multiple lead changes, incredible defensive plays and late-inning heroics before Freeman ultimately emerged as the hero with a dramatic solo walk-off bomb in the bottom of the 18th inning to lift the Dodgers to a wild 6-5 win and 2-1 series lead.

Ohtani was an absolute monster in this game as well, going 4-for-4 with two homers, two doubles and five walks, including four intentional — reaching base nine times in total, a World Series record.

Game 2: Dodgers’ Yamamoto shines with all-time performance to even series

In Game 2, the Dodgers bounced back from their series-opening loss behind an absolute gem from starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Japanese superstar kept the Blue Jays’ bats largely in check over a complete game, four-hitter, as the Dodgers secured a 4-1 victory to tie the series heading back to L.A.

The Dodgers were powered offensively by Will Smith, who hit a home run and drove in three, and Max Muncy, who hit a bomb of his own to help Los Angeles seal the victory.

Game 1: Blue Jays explode for 11 runs to open the World Series

The Blue Jays had a dream start to the 2025 Fall Classic as the team crushed the Dodgers in an 11-4 rout at the Rogers Centre. The defining moment came in the sixth inning when Toronto unleashed a nine-run barrage after forcing Dodgers ace Blake Snell from the game — highlighted by Addison Barger’s pinch-hit grand slam, the first in World Series history.

Daulton Varsho’s fourth-inning homer tied the game, while Alejandro Kirk’s two-run homer also contributed to Toronto’s dominant win.

Expected lineups, pitching for Game 7

On the mound we’ll see a matchup between Max Scherzer and Shohei Ohtani.

Scherzer last pitched in Game 3, allowing five hits and three earned runs across four innings, as the Dodgers ultimately went on to win 6-5. Shohei Ohtani last pitched in Game 4, allowing six hits and four earned runs across six innings, as the Blue Jays eventually took home a 6-2 win.

Both star pitchers will be looking to bounce back in Game 7 in Toronto.

In terms of lineups, here’s what the Blue Jays and Dodgers will feature.

How the Blue Jays got here

The “George Springer Dinger” heard ’round the country in Game 7 versus the Mariners on Monday night gave the Blue Jays a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh, and the team never looked back. They held a tight one-run lead to clinch Toronto’s first World Series berth since Joe Carter clubbed the winning homer in the 1993 Fall Classic.

Springer’s resurgence this season after one of the worst campaigns of his career has been one of the main reasons for Toronto’s unexpected success, especially in the postseason. The 36-year-old has been the clutch veteran the team has craved this fall, posting 11 hits, four homers and nine RBI — many of the clutch variety — over Toronto’s two series vs. the Yankees and Mariners.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who inked a half-billion dollar contract extension early in the season, has been worth every penny for his 2025 playoff run alone. The Jays star slugger mashed a 384-foot bomb in the bottom of the fifth inning of their 6-2 win in Game 6 versus Seattle, tying him with Jose Bautista and Joe Carter for the most playoff home runs in team history with six, while also grabbing the franchise record for most homers in a single post-season.

Vlady leads the MLB postseason in most major offensive categories entering the World Series, and was named ALCS MVP after his monstrous seven-game performance against the Mariners.

The team’s lesser known players like Nathan Lukes, Ernie Clement, Addison Barger and Andrés Giménez have also contributed in massive ways on both sides of the ball, helping the solidify the Blue Jays lineup as a formidable one from top-to-bottom while providing top-tier defence game-after-game.

The Blue Jays rotation has also been great, with Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, rookie Trey Yesavage, wiley veteran Max Scherzer and maligned closer Jeff Hoffman all contributing massive performances throughout Toronto’s playoff run.

How the Dodgers got here

The Dodgers, meanwhile, charged into the 2025 World Series on the strength of dominant starting pitching and timely power, steamrolling the National League throughout the postseason. Entering the playoffs as the NL’s third seed, the Dodgers swept the Cincinnati Reds in the Wild Card Series, displaying their offensive depth and pitching prowess.

Against the formidable Phillies in the NLDS, Los Angeles took the series in four games, highlighted by a dramatic walk-off win following a Phillies’ defensive miscue. In the NLCS, the Dodgers utterly dominated the Milwaukee Brewers, allowing just four runs in a stunning four-game sweep of one of baseball’s best teams.

The key to the defending-champion Dodgers’ success? Their elite, billion-dollar rotation featuring Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and, of course, Shohei Ohtani, the two-way superstar and perennial MVP front-runner who posted the greatest individual performance in MLB history in Game 4 versus the Brewers — posting an absurd 10 strikeouts on the mound and slugging three home runs at the dish to single-handedly lift the Dodgers into their second-straight Fall Classic.

After winning 24 of their last 30 games, Los Angeles entered the World Series looking to secure back-to-back championships, something that hasn’t been done in MLB in a quarter century.

World Series rosters for Blue Jays, Dodgers

Both the Blue Jays and Dodgers announced their World Series rosters on Friday morning ahead of Game 1.

For Game 6, it’ll be a repeat of Game 2 on the mound, with a pair of aces going head-to-head in Dodgers righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the Blue Jays’ Kevin Gausman.
