PHILADELPHIA – The UAB men’s soccer team finished the regular season on a high note, defeating Temple 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Temple Sports Complex.

The Blazers (6-7-2, 3-4-1 American) controlled play from the start, striking twice in the first half behind a brace from sophomore forward Lucas Rizzo. Both goals were assisted by Lucas Nordin, as the duo connected twice in a five-minute span to give UAB a 2-0 lead before halftime.

Rizzo’s first goal came in the 38th minute when Nordin slipped a pass into space, allowing Rizzo to slot home his fourth goal of the season. The pair linked up again in the 42nd minute as Rizzo doubled the advantage with his team-leading fifth goal of the year.

From there, the Blazer defense and goalkeeper Francisco Ranieri took care of business. Ranieri needed just one save to earn his fourth win of the season and third clean sheet. UAB limited the Owls (1-13-2, 0-8 American) to only four total shots, none of which seriously threatened goal.

Offensively, UAB finished with an 11-4 edge in shots and a 6-1 advantage in shots on target. The Blazers also held a narrow edge in possession (51%) and corners (3-2).

With the win, UAB closes the regular season with back-to-back victories and keeps its postseason hopes alive heading into the final American Conference standings update.
