Bieber was acquired by the Jays at the trade deadline from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for pitching prospect Khal Stephen. He signed a two-year, $32 million contract with Cleveland last winter that included a player option for 2026.
Toronto acquired Bieber when he was in the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John surgery that cut short his 2024 season. After making four minor league appearances, Bieber started seven down the stretch of the regular season with the Jays and then made five additional appearances in the playoffs.
The 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner had a 3.57 ERA in 40.1 innings during the regular season and had a 3.86 ERA in the playoffs as the Jays reached the World Series.
The 30-year-old is a veteran of eight MLB seasons and owns a career ERA of 3.24, making the AL All-Star Team in both 2019 and 2021.
As it currently stands, Bieber, along with Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage and Jose Berrios are starters under contract with Toronto for 2026. Both Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer are scheduled to become free agents this winter.
Bo Bichette, Seranthony Dominguez, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Ty France are the other free agents from the 2025 Jays heading into the off-season.
