Registration must be completed by Nov. 28
NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF ORILLIA
*************************
The City of Orillia is introducing an online registration system for businesses that wish to continue receiving curbside recycling collection services starting in 2026.
Registration is for organizations that are considered commercial, industrial and institutional, such as retail locations, restaurants, churches, and medical care facilities.
Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Circular Materials will assume responsibility for the collection and management of blue box materials from residential sources across the Province of Ontario. However, under the new provincial legislation Circular Materials is not required to collect recycling generated by businesses. As a result, the city may discontinue business recycling collection service depending on the outcome of the city’s 2026 budget process.
To ensure continued services, all businesses in Orillia must register for city-managed business recycling collection that will be completed under a separate collection contract. This applies to all businesses currently using city issued roll out carts or curbside recycling bins or boxes. Registration in the program does not apply to residents.
Business registration deadline: Nov. 28, 2025
Only registered locations will be serviced after Dec. 31, 2025. Registering your business with the city helps ensure a complete and accurate list of participating locations, allowing the contractor to plan collection routes accordingly. Late registrations will still be accepted but may result in collection delays.
Businesses should continue using their current recycling containers at this time. Any future program changes will be communicated to businesses through the program registry.
To register your business and review the program FAQs visit orillia.ca/Waste and go to the ‘Blue Box Recycling Collection – Business Registration’ section.
