Sam Montembeault Breaks His Silence After Being Mocked by the Bell Centre Crowd

The Montreal Canadiens’ goaltender Samuel Montembeault experienced quite a night yesterday at the Bell Centre.

After a tough start to the game-allowing three goals on five shots and being outright mocked by the Bell Centre crowd…

“And make it 3-0 Flyers over Habs with a second power-play goal. Three goals on five shots on goalie Samuel Montembeault. Still 12:10 left in first period.”

Montembeault ultimately showed impressive mental strength and bounced back!

The sarcastic applause turned into real, heartfelt cheers for Montembeault.

Samuel Montembeault comments on what happened

Samuel Montembeault heard the mocking applause coming from the upper sections of the Bell Centre when he made a save on a shot from the red line in the first period.

“I understand. I need to be able to do my job,” said the Canadiens’ goaltender after the 5-4 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.

He admitted that it did affect him, unfortunately…

“After the third goal, my head was spinning,” admitted the goalie. “[…] But I had nothing left to lose, down 3-0.”

In the end, he came back strong and helped the Montreal Canadiens earn a big point.

Martin St-Louis’ decision to leave Samuel in net ultimately paid off against the Philadelphia Flyers.
